Sub cable question

Hi all,

Had an electrician do some wiring for me over the weekend. He ran speaker wire for my sub connection. My amp has a "sub out" rca jack. Would I be better off to run a shielded coax cable with rca/f adaptors at each end? I have read that with unshielded cable I may pick up some hum.

The drywall is still off, so now would be the time to change it. The cable run is about 45 feet.

I'd add a coax with RCA/F adapters, or terminated with crimp/compression RCAs, so you can use your receiver's Sub Out jack to drive an active sub. But you might as well leave the speaker wires there too (provided they're 12 awg or so), in case you ever want to run a passive sub in that location.
