Tweeter/Hi Fi Buys stores closing

I found out today that several Tweeter branded and Hi Fi Buys branded stores are closing. I received a letter in the mail today regarding closing from the Tweeter I used to frequent in the Chicago area and I stopped in a closing Hi Fi Buys store in Atlanta today.

I think they are closing a total of 49 stores over an eight week period.

Right now ALL items are 10%-30% off. A few display items (including large lcds, dlps, plasmas) are at 50% off retail.

This liquidation is being outsourced to a third party so there will be a methodical pricing scheme and the ability to make one off deals will be slim.

I got some of my best deals on mid to high end stuff a few years ago when several Tweeters closed.

Get it while you can!

I bought my last turntable at the store in the Century Shopping Center in Chicago in the early 1980's when it was a United Audio. That store has been there for a long time.

With the markdowns, many of the items are now down to retail. Woo-Hoo!

Well you have to have a good relationship with the store managers to get the best prices. I am buying two DLPs this week for much more than the discounted marked price. And that is hard to believe right now considering they have a third party doing the liquidation.

Tweeter has always been known as a place that goes well below retail for loyal customers. I always receive about 25% off of NEWLY released to the market electronics at Tweeter. Old stuff I do even better.

By the way, I cannot recall ever seeing much product marked above MSRP at Tweeter/HiFi Buys and I have shopped and know staff in stores at Mount Prospect (now closed), Vernon Hills, and Gurnee in IL; and Kennesaw, Buckhead in Georgia to name a few. They have the same MSRP prices as Abt in Chicago burbs (who by the way also heavily discounts) where I was a frequent customer. I noticed their name in your sig!

You guys that are using the IN76 projector--

What scaler/processor are you using for the 2:35 CIH screen?

What anamorphic lens are you using for the 2:35 CIH screen?

Will or does it work with HD/BR DVDs?

What would you get if you had it to do over?

Will your scaler need to be replaced if you replace your IN76 with a 1080p projector?

Will your anamorphic lens need to be replaced if you replace your IN76 with a 1080p projector?

Thanks-
