so i plug this in to my HDR-HC3 sony cam and when fully charge it is about 150 minutes, or 2.5 hours so says the battery info button.

sure i was expecting a lower number than the advertised one but less that half the battery life? lol.....

I know what you mean. It sucks how they advertise to be 6.5 hours and you barely even get half of that. Just to play it safe with my HDR-HC7, I bought three NP-FH70s along with the stock NP-FH60. What you really want to do is get the NP-FH100. That will probably give you the 6 hours you want but man it's expensive. Luckily for me, I bought all my Sony accessories at cost. =) It pays to know people that can hook you up.

They all do that. Battery power is quite dependent on a lot of things... ambient temperature, humidity... the way the cam is being used... yadda, yadda. So you can bet they state battery power under the BEST conditions. As a result, what ever they say... take 40% right off they top and you will be a little more accurate.

What ticks me off is that my HC3 isn't even a year old and already the battery is showing signs of wear. Meanwhile, battery in my cell phone is 5 years old and still going strong

I've gone through many Sony batteries on my various Sony cams and yes, they do not seem to last very long. I bought a dual 'quick charger' for my VX2000/FX7/TRV900 batteries, and two of the batteries (about a year old) are already causing a 'warning' indicator to flash on the charger.

But the Sony batteries are nice in that you get a reasonably accurate remaining time indicator. That's better than a simple battery icon.

i know that the orange charge indicator lights up when the camera is plugged in and the battery is charging. but it also lights up when the camera is in use with the batter. is this normal? the battery is brand new, btw.
