Got it installed tonight - yay!
Wound up sticking it on the windshield. Not quite what I wanted, but it'll do. There was nowhere else I could make it stick.
It would have been nice if they had one "mega wire" to go from the dock down to a breakout cable, so instead of 4 little wires running up my dash I'd have one medium. I think that would have looked cleaner.
The dock has a little "Lock" Switch on it. Hopefully that'll keep it from popping out of the dock if I hit a bump or two ;-) I also hope I don't forget it's locked if I decide to try to take it off the dock.
Obviously not Visteon's fault, but I have to complain about the FM Modulator -- it was a royal pain to figure out how to take apart my dash to get to behind the stereo to hook up the antenna plugs. When I finally did get it out, I found the antenna plug... and if I'd known where it was before I took things apart I could have retrieved it just by sticking my fingers up behind a panel and giving it a good yoink. Grr.
It starts up fast. The Line-Out "Volume" setting (Low/Medium/High) also affects the FM Modulator. Mine's set to High, so it's close to the volume of the native radio if I swap stations. You can set the HD-2 stations as presets, and it will remember you were on one when you restart it.
Sound quality is great, even through the FM Modulator. I can hear the difference between analog and digital, even though I don't have the ear for it. I am too much on the fringe of the AM station I like, so I'll have to try that out tomorrow on the way home from work. The HD wouldn't really lock.
It does get hot, and I wasn't even running it for long. Fortunately, I don't intend to fondle it
while it's running.
I took photos of the unboxing, they're here:http://www.tydalforce.net/hdjump/
sorry for the bad photo skills.
