HSU VTF-2-MK2 or VTF-1 ???

Hopefully, someone can provide some info regarding a model-to-model comparison.

I just ordered a VTF-2-MK2 for $399. It is out of stock and apparently will be discontinued soon. It should be available at the end of April. There will only be limited quantities so I'm not even sure if they will have one for me. After this lot, they are going bye-bye. The $100 discount grabbed my attention.

The VTF-1 is the same price. It is a 200W sub instead of 250W sub like the above unit. All other "specs at a glance" are the same. It is in stock so I could get it w/o waiting a month. My question is this... Does anyone know if there is any other difference than the extra 50W of the old VTF-2-MK2 unit? Does the new VTF-1 model have anything that makes it superior? As it is, if all other specs are the same, I'm not sure the extra 50W is worth a one month wait. If the VTF-1 has some type of hidden advantage that isn't obvious on their spec page or visa versa, it would help me make a decision. I basically went w/ the -2-MK2 because of the sale price being the same as the -1 but I didn't know at the time that the -2-MK2 was being discontinued. Now I'm just confused.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I'd recommend going with the VTF-1, unless having the extra 50 watts makes you feel better for some subjective reason. The VTF-1 is the heir apparent to the VTF-2 Mk 2.

Hsu says the VTF-1 "...is a slightly lower powered version of the VTF-2 Mk 2, 200W instead of 250W (which translates into a 1/2 dB difference, not perceptable), but still packs more power than the original VTF-2..."

I'd take their word for it. They know their products better than anyone here does.

Thanks.

I did see that blurb on their site about the new VTF-1 being "superior", but then again, what else would they say? I take that as more of sales pitch than anything.
I'm not real sure how important that extra 50W is for me. Maybe not much?

Anyone else have any opinions?

Either one should be great!

I have the original VTF-2 that I got and have enjoyed emensly 4 years ago. Plenty of power for my 12x16 (8ft high) room with only a 100Watt amp (If I recall correctly).

PS - Side Note: Getting a Gramma / Subdude stand/pad was a great/cost effective improvement.

Why worry?

If you don't mine B-stock; they got 2 VTF-2.2s listed on their outlet page right now.

VTF-2.2 B-stock

So, what do you have to loose? I'm surprised they didn't tell you they had them. Or you didn't want it. Not sure based on your initial post.

I think they're probably referring to the orig vtf2 w/150 amp as the new vtf1 as having more power. It was that model that later evolved into the vtf2.2 . If I had my choice, I'd probably go with the 2.2 but as HSU and others have mentioned the difference Is going to be small and probably not worth the wait to me. Like Beaker 1024, I too have the orig vtf2 and If the vtf 1 Is an improvement on that, that would be a nice sub...

Thanks for your opinions everyone. As luck would have it, the weekend passed and HSU gave me a call.

Looks like they have located just one of the old 2.2's and it shipped to my attention on Monday! Should be here Friday. I guess this one was pulled aside for some photo shoots so I guess I'm getting a celebrity sub. I hope it's head isn't swollen from all the publicity!

Is this the last 2.2 to be sold on this planet as new from HSU? Hmmmm, time will tell.

I emailed HSU about the availability of the VTF-2 MK-2...because it's always out of stock. This is the email I received today.

Actually the VTF-2 MK 2 has recently been
discontinued, so it is no longer available. The VTf-1
is very similar and is available now and they are the
same price. If you have any other questions please let
us know. Have a nice day.

So I guess Jerr, yours may have been the last one sold. Probaby quite a collectors item, so better take care of it.
