If I can get my hands on a 64 series USB flash firmware I would be willing to be a guinia pig.
Haha my first post since I joined months ago, and turns out to be non AV related. I have been researching on USB product development and learned that there is a difference in the hardware for USB hosts vs USB devices, despite their ports look the same externally. A USB host circuit is indeed slighlty more expensive.
Judging from the functions of the USB ports described here for the 54/64, I would guess that 54 has a device-only port (the TV as a firmware upgradable device), while 64 has a device/host port (firmware upgrade but can also act as a host to OTHER device such as USB drives).
My suggestion - dont hack it with incompatible firmware. The flashing is probably fool-proof (no pun intended) but I wouldnt take the risk
