What are the best cables to run from an amp to a subwoofer?

For a 15' run; in a small home theater. RCA?

???? Powered sub? If so, yes, RCA-terminated interconnect. Unpowered sub? Speaker cable.

It's a powered sub, so I'll go the RCA route. Thanks!

If your sub and your processor/receiver allows it, balanced cable/XLR connectors is the best way to go. 15' run is not too long so a well shielded unbalanced cable/RCA connectors will, most likely work just fine.

RCA terminations with a good shielded cable will work just fine for a short run like yours. XLR would be the better choice though.
If there are unshielded powercords in close proximity, they can cause hums, and hence hum rejection becomes even more important.
Check out some of the Canare LV-77S offerings by bluejeans and others. I recently bought a 50 ft run from one of the on-line companies and terminated them with RCA myself.
Works great.

RG6 quad shield coax from home depot with gold crimp on rca connectors from parts express made for quad shield. I have a 30ft run from my lexicon to svs sub and absolutely no hum. I also made my own 15ft component video cables for my hdtv cable convertor to front projector and 720p looks great.

I forgot to mention parts express sells the crimp tool also

Betcha thats really flexible.

OP save yourself the trouble......buy any brand of RCA cable that meets your length requirement.

I use an old Radio Shack cable and it has worked perfectly for 12 years. I have purchased 3 or 4 different kinds of cables from monoprice. They are the least expensive, and quickest shipping place I know of. PartsExpress is very good too. Don't waste your time and money on anything but the most basic RCA cables for your subwoofer.

There is more profit in cables, interconnects, and speaker wire than in any other area of HT/AV.

Kind Regards

You should realise that the shields on cables, are transparent to electromagnetic interference. They're electrostatic shields, not magnetic, current can be easily induced into a sheilded cable.

Partly agree. Depends on what type of shield.
I am referring to braid shields (like in LV 77-S). Braid shields can minimize EMI though not completely eliminate them. Remeber we are talking LF.

True, but I've never seen any cable with a mu-metal shield.

Well, no. The shield cannot stop electromagnetic interference, it's a Faraday cage.
