Bad image with lot of white

A friend recently gave me an INFOCUS LP425Z DLP projector. It is an older model, but it is a good, cheap starting point for my home theater.

I have my dvd player, Wii, and Xbox 360 hooked up to it. It works great and has a good image. Except I noticed while watching a movie the other day (Silent Hill) that the image seemed to jump for a second when there was a lot of white. I later noticed it in a few other movies, but didn't pay much attention to it, because it only lasted for a second and then cleared back up.

However, I was recently playing an Xbox game and got to a level that had a bright white background. The image jumped and remained that way for the entire level. It looked like there were two images of the same screen slightly separated. If I paused the game it brings up a darker screen and the image clears up immediately.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Is it just a problem with the older projector or can I adjust brightness levels or something to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know. But I did wonder how you are connected to the PJ. Via Component or S-video? Or Composite?

If the Sources have setup menus you might try different brightness/contrast settings along with corresponding opposite settings in the PJ menu.
Experiment a bit is all I can think of right now.

Good luck.

EDIT: HERE is the LP425Z at Projectorcentral. You can find the specs and reviews here. It is only a 1000 hr lamp and very low brightness. You might want to make sure you're not pushing the brightness too hard to make it look better. It is not capable of being very bright. (BTW: you won't make it last longer however by reducing the brightness control. The lamp itself doesn't raise and lower its brightness.)
I don't know if there is an econo setting - I don't think so.

Everything is connected to a receiver with s-video, and the receiver is connected to the projector with s-video.

I see you posted while I was adding to my thoughts. see above.
BTW, it is a 7 year old design so it won't compare to today's models, but in its day it was great. MSRP of $5500 back then. Streeted at $4000.
We've come a looooong way!
