Blu-ray, HD-DVD & HD Broadcasts(H.264 & MPEG-2) Screenshots*BIG FILES* - Page 63

The 1080i capture is definitely jacked up with the pink (!) cast. The BRD looks decent but definitely not a fresh new transfer. I wonder how the sequel will look as the broadcast HD version I have saved is pretty nice.

"John Rambo: Uncut" Blu-ray. Almost definitely "uncut" in the sense that the German theatrical was cut and this is the US theatrical, and they apparently skimped on the extras. But if you want the metal case... I see there is actually a group import thread for it on High Def Digest.

Thanks for the MiB pics, House. The pink subs in the broadcast that are supposed to be white... wow.

I managed to actually watch Traffic finally, and I thought it was great. No response so far re: removing the tax but I ended up ordering the German BD anyway (along with the German-exclusive True Lies SE DVD). Probably won't be here for at least 2 weeks though.

Oh, OK. I thought it was something a bit more exciting, lol!

Superbad - Blu-ray Screenshots

Just took some quick shots as I haven't seen any yet and I was wondering if anyone else feels this movie is excessively dark? It's probably as it's supposed to be, but to me it looks crushed all over the place even in darker areas of shots in broad daylight.

720p downscale shows a clear loss of detail from the original, and the 480p, well.... Definitely in the 1080p range of detail.
I remember it looking very natural. Never seemed too dark to me, watching it at 100" on a Panasonic AE2000U.

Ignoring all the other shots cause I'm not sure what to think, what's up with the new Paramount logo? I think I've only ever seen the older one that actually has colors in it.

PS it would help if you mentioned what the other links are for.
After all the hype about the painstaking restoration they go ahead and slap the new cgi Paramount logo on there. Who do they think they are? Warner Bros?
DNR? Maybe.. Looks like some other kind of filtering to me. I would say that overall this looks average, and there are a select few shots that look above average. BTW the disc was authored 11/8/07!

Sorry the pics start at the end of the movie and go to the beginning.. Stupid free hosts

Definitely smoothed over. HD without the textures.

Exactly right.

I watched this last night. It's terrible. I am not one who usually says this, but it is one of those BD's that doesn't look a whole lot better than the DVD!

There just isn't much definition here. Very soft and mushy.
Ya-know, I have vivid recollections of seeing this movie in the theater when it came out. It was a film grain extraordinaire for its time! I mean it had grain the size of dirt clods being flung at you (as if you were in the tornado). If it is in anyway described as smooth in these hdm encodes, there is simply no denying it is a different experience than the film debut.

...and that's not to say that the theater rendition was incredibly detailed, for all its grain. It was average at best, but the noise stood out like nobody's business.

Is this an indication of what the BD master is going to look like?

Most likely. The DVDs in the bottom shots are from Robert Harris' recent digital restoration.

It seems to have a pink cast/hue over it....that's weird. Since it's still a DVD I'm assuming there's a chance the BD benefits greatly from the restoration in terms of detail.

It's supposed to have an orange/golden cast.

Not really porn, just nudes. Eh, who cares. We're all adults here, right?

The announcement for the six Bonds on BD this October prompted me to do this; a comparison between some HD broadcasts of various Bonds from across the world. Mainly, the Voom airings from two years ago (pre-Lowry fiddling afaik) and some from WOWOW (Lowry)/Star (unknown, maybe maybe not!). Some aired in Europe as well but IIRC were cropped (License to Kill from Sky Cinema HD will make an appearence though despite the cropping). The Lowry remasters seem to have this at the very end after the credits;

Some of the flicks from StarHV look like they've been fiddled with but don't have the Lowry screen at the end; in this case my crazy theory is that they've been dicking around but perhaps haven't finalized the changes but on the others they have. Or something. It is a mystery! On to the comparisons anyway. Since we don't have a BD yet it's mainly about the immediate changes like colour timing/framing etc rather than compression.

Some scratches/specs were in the same place on this one. No Lowry screen. But definate differences can be seen. Draw your own conclusions *shrug*

Almost zero difference. Transfer looks exactly the same except the red tint on the Show which could simply be the broadcast. I don't even know how old that Showtime broadcast is (at *least* three years...). So what garners the Lowry end screen; I didn't pick it out in these pics but it's essentially scratch and damage removal. Guess they felt that's all that needed doing.

More to come later.

Thanks House for those caps.

Sorry about the below off-topic post.

The monthly subscription fee for the Japanese WOWOW HD channel costs 2,480 JPY ($23). StarHV (Hi-Vision = High Definition) package comprising 1 HD channel and 2 SD channels cost 1,890 JPY ($18). The 1COPY law is expected to be replaced by dubbing 10 that would allow subscribers to record the same program 10 times instead of once.

Can someone check and let us know if Peter Pan (BD Import) is DNR-ed ?
Thanks House for the screencaps and using the thumbnail approach.
Thanks House, interesting comparison. I just flipped through my UE copy of OHMSS and it definitely is the same as the wowwow one, but the dvd doesn t have the brightness jacked up like in your shots, you can actually tell that Bond is wearing a pink (sorry, a salmon) coloured shirt in the 4th comparison shot. Still, it looks promising.
