Are Snaps that bad in the Dark ?

I been trying to decide if the higher end frames are really worth the extra $ when you spend most of the time watching in the dark.

Some think the snap frames (draper, da-lite) are butt ugly, but I have not had the privilege to see one up close and personal, and then again when the lights are out, does it really matter ? Has anyone modified their snap frame because they did not find it appealing ?

I guess ease of installation is also a concern.

So are the snappers out there happy ?

Thanks,
Jim

I do not have one, but isn't there an option for trim to cover them?

Most don't have an option to cover them.
I guess due to lack of posts, most people must be going with the better frames and avoiding the snap versions.

Just a guess, as I don't have any data. Maybe it's time for a poll ?

I have a daylite snap for about 5 years now. It is fine. Yes the non snap frame looks better much cleaner in the light but when you are watching a movie you don't notice it. The only thing is the non snap frame the edge is pefically smooth agenst the materal and with the angle hepls hide the over shoot more. on the snap screens you see the over shoot more and the edge is slightly wayey but you really have to look close below are pics of MY ht witht he snap screen.

Well thanks programmergeek & ericsilv. From a distance the pictures look great, I think I could see a little wave that the geek was speaking of, does anyone have a up close shot of the corner of the frame ? I appreciate the help as I am in the throws of moving from my blackout cloth screen to one with some punch.

Ericsilv, Yes that HP material is pretty bright, I've obtained a sample but as I moved it around my theater and then tried different seats, I was not pleased with the differences I saw from side to side. Of course a 6x6 inch sample wasn't much to look at so once again it's hard to really know what your getting into. I am going to take a look at the draper m2500 material since it has a greater viewing angle and still pretty high gain.

I have been using a da-lite hccv screen (110" diagonal) for three years which has a snap pn screen onto an aluminum frame. The snaps on the sides are hidden by a curtain my wife made (that closes for 1:33 to one movies and opens for for 16:9 material). The snaps at the top and bottom of the frame are exposed but not noticeable at all while watching a movie.

I should mention that setting up this type of screen is quite easy and I did the work myself. You first mount the aluminum frame which is quite light and then snap on the screen material which appears to be held quite taut. There are no waves, even in corners.
