Thats funny I was supposed to get mine yesterday as well but no one was home to answer the door. I got the notice that they are coming back today and I have someone at home waiting to sign for it.

I ended up getting the bello stand from Circuit city. The TV will fit on the stand but it still looks kinda small, and to top it off my receiver only fits on the middle shelf and not the bottom that i planned on placing it. Might end up returning it or getting an audit rack.

I picked up mine and had to lay it on it's back to fit, no ill effects noticed. The manual says to not lay face down as debris could fall on the back of the screen and get stuck in the grooves.

Mine should be coming tomorrow as well. I guess we'll have a bunch of new reports soon.

mine is "in town" but i've not received a phone call yet letting me know when they'll be delivering it. i hope they call soon.

My previous set had very similar issues. For example when I looked at the set about 2 feet away from above it there was a "V" of brighter light coming up the set. When looking at it straight on light was more uniform but there were subtle areas of light differences.

My exchanged set exhibits none of these problems.

I'm not trying to lead on that the temp changes cause the popping but that excessive heat in that area will cause the plastic to expand. My crackles definitely sound like the plastic and are definitely coming from the lower left section of the set where it's many degrees warmer than room temp. I'm almost tempted to add a little fan on my stand in that area to circulate the air better.

I guess I'm just looking for a reality check here. I have a Pio DV59-avi Universal DVD player that I used to run with my HLN series DLP until I recently upgraded to the HLT-5089. (What a difference by the way!!)

So anyway, in the past, I used to hook up my DVD player to the HLN with an HDMI to DVI cable and it always was able to display PAL discs (even anamorphic) although to be fair, there was a bit of occasional frame tearing that was just because the HLN's were clearly not set up to display PAL and yet, it was liveable, and made it nice to be able to watch the occasional disc when there was no other choice. (Lost Highway/Spaced/Palin travels/etc.)

However, now that I have tried to play a PAL disc on the HLT, it just flat out says "Non-Supported Mode" and stays on a black screen. Even just the DVD title menu won't display. Nada. (Interestingly, even if I hit stop on the DVD player and try to just bring up the DVD player's native on-screen menu to fiddle with the choices, I can't). In short, the HLT won't leave "Non-Supported Mode" and display any Pio screen or internal menu until I take the disc out.

So, while I was pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to display PAL in it's pristine format, I guess I'm a bit surprised that this seems to be a step backwards from the HLN's capabilities of at least being able to display the video stream to some extent.

I've only tried with the HDMI-HDMI cable thus far, but would it matter if I tried via an analog source like S-Video or does anyone have any backstory to understand what my options are, if any...?

P.S. I'll save my followup question for the DVD Player board but I wonder if the Oppo 981-HD would solve the problem as it appears to convert PAL-NTSC in-player although I hope I don't have to buy a new DVD player to make this work. Especially in that the Pio 59-avi has been such a wonderful transport and it's firewire connection to my receiver makes it a perfect direct source for SACD and DVD-Audio.

Unfortunately it may be a step forward for HDCP implementation.

If your DVD player is upscaling the signal you might want to try outputting at 480p over HDMI or 480i/480p over analog component or S-Video.

My pops come from all over the set, sometimes they come in single burst and sometimes in sets two, three, etc. My wife is about ready to make me go back to our old Panasonic.

This year's LED model is definitely brighter than last year's model. Last years model was on the dim side, that is not the case with this year's model. Even though there are rear projectors that have better vertical viewing angles, I did feel that the viewing angle was better on this year's model.

They are excellent. They are an honest, responsive, authorized dealer for Samsung with great prices. They also use a very reliable shipper.

I have a 5087S and an Oppo 981HD and it plays and displays PAL dics fine.

HI all, I'm new. I've gone thru 2 different DLP projectors, and am sick of merc bulbs!! I love the idea of LED for a light source/color wheel. I have a basic n00bish question...what's the difference between the HLT6187 & HLT6189? I looked around, couldn't find the answer. thanx guys

Thanks for the advice! Well - the grand experiments have come to a close and here's the results:

HDMI: Switching resolutions on the DVD player all the way down to 480i didn't end up making a difference - Non-Supported Mode.

Component: Same story - at any resolution. Non-Supported Mode

S-Video: It finally displayed but it displayed as PAL jumbled signal. If you have seen PAL before on an NTSC display that couldn't handle a PAL signal (slightly scrambled, greyscalish), then you will know what I'm referring to.

Clearly, unless it's being converted prior to entering the HLT, it ain't-a-gonna-happen. Interesting since the HLN's could do more with the signal by comparison.

Oh well, add this to the front page FAQ...Does not play well with PAL natively. =) Guess I'll have to get a converting player like the Oppo going forward.

Anyone have tips or info on using an indoor OTA antenna? I got a cheap RS model and I can't get it to work. I didn't think I would need a powered one. This one rotates and has a dial. Dial C for cheap. lol.

If you are looking for a small indoor antenna you can't go wrong with the Silver Sensor from Zenith. I don't think you can get it from B&M stores anymore but I think you can still find them online. Great antenna and has worked great for me since I don't get my HD locals via sat.

Thanks guys. It turns out that they work better when they are connected to the right port. lol. Mine works but needs a little fine tuning. I have a bunch of locals from the link above, not all. I'll work on it tomorrow and see if I get better results. Turns out a cheap RS model isn't that bad. lol.

To Enter the Service Menu while the TV is on, use the following 2 codes (Info + SM)
To Exit the Service Menu, use just SM.
If you get an aging text, just hit SM again to stop.

^^^^^ WTF? Like I said, I'm new, and this (service menu) seems to be something the likes of me shouldn't be screwing with. What's with all the weird codes?

I'm an electronic musician(roland, korg keyboards, electric drums), and there's a SERVICE MENU for my roland keyboard that is ONLY for testing by authorized techs....If I use that menu, it voids the warranty. It does offer some neat features, but at the expense of warranty. The numeric codes are similar to the ones listed in the post above. I will not be using calibration soft/hardware to enjoy my new hlt6187s.......my CRAPPY bulb powered projector(sharp DT 100) looks just fine to me, as I'm looking at it right now typing this thru my computer(vga straight in)!! dlp ROCKS....$400 bulbs every year SUCK....especially when they don't last HALF as long as they say

Ohhhh yeeeaaahhh! I just unpacked and hooked up the 6189. Gorgeous. And that is without mucking with any settings. I am so happy with this purchase. I will take pics and whatnot this weekend.

I will also be able to compare the HLS vs the HLT side by side until I return the HLS the day after.

Just placed my order for one of these sets.

I had a lamp based Sammy DLP, but when I got it, it had dust stuck in the screen.

Then I saw new LED models were out and after reading everything here, they sound like great sets! I can't wait to see this set in action, especially with my PS3.

Now if only my Planet Earth Blu-ray would ship....

I must be missing something as even after I turn on HTPC mode I still cannot adjust Tint. Gotta go read the manual some more...
