Should I upconvert at the DVD player and feed that signal to the TV? Or should I send the signal in it's original format and let the TV upconvert?

I am passing the signal through my Harmon Kardon Receiver via HDMI cable. However, my receiver just passes that signal through and doesn't convert it at all.

Finally, do all standard DVD movies show up the same or are some lower budget films simply not going to show up as well on the screen.

Right now I find that many films really pixelate for anything that's moving across the screen. When I play my Planet Earth DVD the non-movement shots are stunning, but when the camera pans or if they are zooming across the African Plains, there is a lot of pixillation.

I picked up the OPPO 980H based on recommendations from this sight and it does an oustanding job. I also bring this up because apparently not all chipsets like working with rear projection tv's - Oppo specifically recommends the 980h for rear projection over their other models. I'm no techie so you might want to look into this and possibly even consider returning the sony. I don't have any issues when it comes to "moving accross the screen"

i just noticed the screen pattern a couple of days ago that people have been referring to as )))))((((( its on the lower sides of the set, what is causing this? Are all the screens exhibiting this and we just don't notice it?

I my obversation of 7 different sets, most (5 of 7) had this pattern. It is visible only when observed from 2 to 3 feet away - much closer than you would normally be. Beyond that, you can't see it and it does not appear to have any adverse affect on PQ.

Has anyone put the 5689S in a corner? Does the back touch before the sides of the screen?

Thanks.

Simple geometry question, if your walls are 90 degrees. I suspect the answer is "no".

Just make sure the side vents are not covered by the corner, the back sticks out about 14 inches.

My 6187s exhibits it as well but like SnakeDoctor said, if I watch TV from the distance where I can see that effect, I'll be blind by the weekend.

haha point well taken...what would be the trade off if one was to get a new screen, would geometry be compromised? Would it be one of those things that even replacement screens have the same problem? Maybe it is inherant to the screen making process on these sets...?

I do get lip sync issues from time to time but I'm not giving up surround sound. Since my Receiver is 7 years old, it may be coming up to upgrade time. I'd certainly get a receiver that would handle HDMI switching and upconversion plus any sync problem.

i only get lip sync issues when using my 1995 Sony rack system that is hooked up with the normal red/white stereo composite plugs into the audio out on the tv and the dish network receiver that is hooked up via s-video, when those r both on i get an echo between the tv speakers and the rack system. When i play dvds on my PS3 hooked up via hdmi i get no echo between the tv speakers and the sony rack system...must be the hdmi connection, i also get the echo when playing dvds on the regular progressive scan dvd player that is hooked up via component cables....

I use the cleaning cloth that was supplied with the TV. I dampen it lightly with water.

I got my HLT6187S today..

Love it.

However, I'm playing a blue ray disc on my PS3 and I thought this would be in 1080p, but it's coming up in 1080i.

Is there a way I can set it on the TV to come in on 1080P?

Wjat you're seeing as 1080i is the input source resolution. In other words, your PS3 is putting out 1080i. The TV will upconvert that to 1080p. I don't know if you can make the PS3 output 1080p.

You can get on at Amazon for $1900 free shipping... As far as I can tell different vendors have different extensions. Sears had the same TV but is did not say SAX just S

I told the repair guy just now about it, and he says that all of them do that. And to show how smart the guy is, he said its got moving parts like a color wheel. What an idiot, I am not impressed with him.

That sounds like a 60hz AC hum. Try this $2 fix. Go buy a adaptor plug at the hardware store which converts 3 prong to 2 prong. That will eliminate the earth ground which can cause a hum. If it work post your results.

Took the plunge after having gone thru the multitude of reviews on the HL-T6187s and bought the rptv from Amazon on 11/23 (Delivered by eagle USA on 11/29....good service). Cannot say enuf abt the PQ and my Sony HT seems to have suddenly found a reason for its existence.......awesome sound effects!!

Have not purchased the ext. warranty yet, however have finalised my choices to either the Mack (great job uhphikap on follow-ups to user questions in this forum) or the Philips 5 yr. Will be making a choice soon. The one thing I like abt the Philips is the coverage for 5 years vs. the 3 yrs on the Mack. However, after seeing all of uhphikap inputs in this forum, it seems like getting service from Mack for any issues will be a breeze.

Will be posting my findings on any "Halo" issues, nuances, etc sometime soon......in the meantime, am enjoying "Transformers" w/my 4 yr old......cheers!!

KEEP ME POSTED ON YOUR FINDINGS... I ORDER THE SAME TV AROM AMAZON
THANKS

I need help with a questions please.

I have the 6187s, an xbox 360 and a reciever for surround sound, and an optical cable.

When i hook the xbox 360 up via componet cable, the sound works fine from my tv to my reciever.( optical cable from my tv to my reciever.) But when i plug my xbox in via hdmi the sound does not go through, via optical cable. It works with my composit audio cables but not my optical.

Any ideas on why this doesnt work? It seems weird that the optical cable works via componet cable, but not hdmi? And my composit audio cables work with both. Do i need to acivate something in the tv, or xbox? Im stumped on this one. Any ideas?

how are you connecting the ps3? if you're using component you're limited to 1080i output. switch to hdmi for 1080p. if you're already using hdmi, check your display settings on the ps3 and enable 1080p output

Hey Guys,

I am looking to purchase the Bose Cinemate home theater system.

I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer.

This system hooks into the systems Audiou out jack and you then shut the tvs speakers off through the menu.

Will this play sound through all of my inputs including HDMI? just like the tv speakers would of?

Hope someone can help

thanks

I'm really not sure. It never concerned me enough to think about replacing.

I have ordered the 6187 and am now having concerns. Without the HDMI 1.3 I am concerned that I am going to have issues with upcoming HDdvd/BD for picture quality. I started the search a month ago and of course the more you read the more discouraging this is. I have a Mits 55511 and was looking to replace and thought I had found the right set. To spend 600 more to go to the 89 is out of the budget range at this time. I really don't see Samsung's philosophy here. I would have thought with their own product coming they would support 1.3. Many others do. I had looked at the Mits 57734 also and than thought the 6187 would be better. Are there holes in my thoughts?
Thanks

Hello everyone. I just pulled the trigger on a HL-T5687-SAX. I am hoping to have it setup for football this weekend. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread and helping me make a tough decision. I am concerned about the known issues and hope that the SAX rev has resolved some of these. I found a review in HT Mag on the set and was surprised they said the black levels on this set wasn't up to dlp standards. I haven't read any posts complaining of this. Anyone notice this with their set. They had tweaked the settings along the line of some of the suggested starting points posted in this thread.
I will let you know how my 5687-sax looks soon.

Cant post the link to the review since I am under 3 posts
