FYI, for those of you that have the '89 series of this set, I just picked up the Nokia BH-501 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones. The ones recommended with the set were more than I wanted to spend. Buy.com had a good price on these so I pulled the trigger. They paired great and so far work excellent.

Edit..if you get in there to the user settings..don`t choose 480i!!! I did that and the TV doesn`t support that DVR box setting...I had a hell of a time resetting it. If you choose 480p..you`ll get the full screen..then you can use the TVs psize button on the remote to get the aspect ratio pleasing/acceptable to your eye. Zoom 1 looks best to me...

Thanks I will try the zoom first. That may be the ticket. My Pioneer does a great job for reformatting and it is just slightly distorted but accptable.

Thanks Ken. I am sure that there is little difference in the height between the 2. I was thinking a little hight then sitting eye level for table sitting and standing also. I saw a stand at IKEA that was 19" but it looked too short. Now it may be just right.

Just puchased the Samsung hlt6187s and am having problems getting any sound through my receiver for cable and dvd. I am getting sound for the over the air signal. I'm running an optical cable from the TV to my older recever (no HDMI inputs). Also, during the setup process, I could only choose analog for the cable setup as it would't let me choose the digital mode. My cable box is digital. Any ideas ? Thanks

What version HDMI does the 87 series work with?
most of these post says 1.1 or 1.2
yet when u pull up the 5087 on Sammy's website theres a little gray graphic box on the first page next to the other gray graphic boxes
stating HDMIv 1.3
so does the 87 have HDMI 1.3 ?

I tracked my Samsung 6187S on Eagle's website and it said it arrived today in Newark, NJ! Can I call them tomorrow morning to schedule a delivery? Or, do I have to wait until the 10th? (Which was the original arrival date.)

My stand is homade at 20.5" and when flatout in the ol' lounger is right on the money at 37.5" Looks great I tell ya!

Jerkon..I had a similar problem after a visit from the comcast cable guy. Maybe it`s the same issue. He had accidentally changed a setting in the cable box user settings ..the audio output should be set at "auto". He`d changed it to HDMI/DVI. As always..I`d caution you to contact your cable company before messing with user settings..and have them walk you through it. See my earlier post today.

I will build one eventually, but I want time to think about the design to match the other stuff in the room. I just don't have time to design, build, and finish it before the set gets here.

Help everyone! Is this picture below the infamous "halo" problem? I just noticed this today, I only seem to see it on black pictures. If this is a halo issue, how do I contact Samsung to get it fixed, and how long does it take them to fix the issue? Grr, I just got my TV less than a fortnight ago.

yep that is the infamous halo....here is the [Part # : BP61-01639A Description: Optical Modular Bracket] and it takes less than 30 mins to install....call 1 800 726 7864....good luck my friend!

Eagle delivered mine about 5 days ahead of the scheduled delivery date. I'm sure they will call you on the morning they are delivering it.

Is there a test for Green Push? I've done a search but haven't found anything. Normally I don't notice anything special, but watching TV the other night, certain indoor darker scenes were quite off colour to the green end. Blond hair was greenish and lips were almost purple. Then the next scene, with different lighting, was fine. Or does this just mean I need to do a better calibration (which I actually may have reset and forgotten).

Tech came yesterday, installed black bracket in about 20 minutes. PQ looks the same except for lack of blue halo.

Took him only a few days to receive the part from Samsung.

This sounds like the EXACT same problem I have been experiencing. Calibration didn't seem to help my set. So far, the thing that I have done that has had the most effect is abandoning the Movie mode that most here think is good (I don't - too dark) and use Standard mode instead. I have just recently switched from Movie to Standard - my adjustments are not complete yet but so far, it has had a positive effect on the green push.

Absolutely call them. I saw that mine had arrived and didn't call until later that day (Tues). If I would have called that morning they probably would have delivered that day because they only do 2 man deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays here. Never hurts to call, they have good service from what I've experienced.

The 6187s will not pass audio received through HDMI out their audio output ports. Supposedly it has to do with some copyright "stuff" with the HDMI specification, although there are those who say that the spec doesn't really demand this. Anyway, if your issue is with signal you are receiving through the TV and trying to pass through the "Audio Out" ports, that is probably the problem. Apparently it can't be done.

As I understand it there are three options:

1) Use component connections to your TV and then pass audio from your TV to the receiver.

2) Run video from your device to the TV with HDMI but run audio directly from the device to your receiver.

3) Get a new Receiver with HDMI capabilties and let it do the video & audio switching.

If you have been looking for an excuse to upgrade that ageing receiver... you have now found it.

Well, I called samsung. A service tech is scheduled to come out on tuesday to fix the halo issue. Hopefully he can get the part in by then, because if he can't, I'm screwed since I have no weekdays off. Luckily I happen to be off work on Tuesday for the governor's inaguration.

I became interested in this tv after I heard about the led technology.I have a infocus projector so i didn't want to have two bulbs to replace.my 22 inch samsung lcd in the kitchen went out so bb gave me a 1100.00 credit but they did not offer this model(89 series) so i decided to go w/the pana 750u 50i had to drive 50 miles to the magnolia store but after getting there they would not tranfer the store credit.a big screw-up on their part.anyway after that i went back to the 5689s.found a good deal on the net. and pulled the trigger tues.this will be replacing a 15 yr.old 55in. rear projection hitachi ultra vision.my 18 yr. old is going to take the hitachi back to school w/her.hoping for a defect free unit but after reading this forum i feel like i can deal w/ any problems that may came up.thanks for all the info it has been a great help!

One difference is that the 87 and the 89 is that the 89 has the newer HDMI 1.3.

Thanks Dino. I finely got it set up correctly using a combination for cable box settings and TV settings.

Last night I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. Turned off the TV and wet to bed. Woke up a few hours hearing voices. The TV was on. Turned it off again. Wife work up later hearing voices. The TV was on again. I went out and unplugged it! What is that all about?

One more question...does the purple halo get worse over time?

I called Samsung on Monday 11/26 [I think] to have a tech fix the halo problem. The service center place set me up for Wednesday 12/5. A few days prior to that I called the service center to give them a heads up on what the problem was and to see if they could come prepared. The lady I talked to said none of the techs were aware of the bulletain or halo issues and that someone would have to come out and see it first hand before they order anything. On the 5th no one came or called. So I call them today [12/06] and they said that they ordered the replacement bracket and should be in next Monday or Tuesday. We'll see.

I noticed today that Big River (Amazon.com) has the Samsung TR500X3B stand on sale for $199.99 including shipping. That's $50 lower than anyone else. This stand is adjustable to fit all sizes of XX87/XX89 televisions.

A tech just worked on my HL-T6189S set to fix the blue halo problem, improve focus, and eliminate a loud buzzing sound. The blue halo is now fixed (the black lens ring fix as discussed was installed) and the focus is improved.

He replaced the mainboard to try and eliminate the buzz, but it did not work. The loud buzz sounds like it is coming from the LED light source. Does anyone know the magic words to tell Samsung customer support to get them to fix the buzz in the LED light source (I assume replacing it)?

Something interesting: the new mainboard has a date of 2007-09-21 with a firmware version of 1019 ("MODULE: T-LAU2AUS0-1019, DATE: 2007-09-21, MICOM: T-DLEDAUS5-3029").

If you can find a normal computer instead of a laptop, try connecting that one. I've connected 3 pc's to this television with both nvidia and ati graphics cards/drivers, but no laptops.

My set has the buzz. I'm still waiting to have it fixed. With the rear cover off, I listened to try to find the source of the buzz. With my set, it appears to be coming from what is referred to as the "LED driver board" in the service manual, which is part of the optical engine. It's not the main power supply or secondary (LED) power supply.
