Received my 5087 from the site in Montana on Monday. Guys from Yellow very good, brought it up to the porch despite my being told they would leave it curbside.
The specs: HLT5087SX/XAA, hencho en Mexico, Aug. 07, firmware 1026.
The pluses: NO halo. NO buzzing, though there is a slight fan noise, esp. if I stick my head behind the unit. NO green push that I could see. Haven't seen RBE or SDE, not sure I want to look too hard anyway, I'll see it all the time. I did see some edge noise on one of the OTA channels, haven't looked into that to see if DNIe or whatever affects it.
The minuses: Slight geometry/bowing error. Overall a slight "smile" to the picture, but maybe only about 1/8" in the middle. Bottom slight tilt. Not really noticeable generally, I can see it when there are boxes and such on the screen. Also, I didn't see until today, there is a thin vertical scratch or smudge on the left half of the screen, not visible during viewing, I only saw it because sunlight was hitting it from the right, I was standing on the left. Hopefully on the surface which I could remove.
The stand I have is a bit too high, around 24", I'm looking at a Bush VS39542 at Best Buy about 3-4" shorter. Yes, the vertical viewing angle is more critical, I notice the "bright spot" is slightly below center right now when seated. Once I get into watching a show, it's not as much of an issue. Had on the Sahara Desert show on Discovery last night after MythBusters, some shots in that looked great!
I think I like the standard setting, have not extensively played with the numerous
settings. I otherwise used Avical's starter settings.
Overall very happy with what I got, feel lucky not to have any of the major problems that others have had. Fingers crossed.
