Do ANY DVR's really work?

I found this forum when I was having a problem with my Motorola DVR. It has issues that neither Charter, Motorola or this forum has been able to solve. I considered going to a satellite receiver because I was/am so fed up with Charters alleged customer service and the reliability of the DVR. As I read some of the other forums here, it appears that everyone is having the same kinds of problems regardless of their box manufacturer or video provider. Is the DVR an invention that is ahead of it's time? Is there one out there that really works? Frankly, I had much fewer problems with the old first-generation MOXI that this new unit replaced. I'd like to have it back, but can't do that either. I'm about ready to go back to my VCR.

The satellite DVRs have reliability issues of their own. I don't know what DVR you have with Charter, or what software it is using, so I can't say how they would compare.

Have you considered a Tivo Series3 CableCard DVR? If reliability is what you care about, nothing else on the market comes close. It works with Charter.

I have experience with the Panasonic Showstopper, Replay 3000 and 5500, Motorola 3416, and Scientific Atlanta 8300. For recording TV (why they were invented in the first place), all have worked well for me. The Replays are more versatile and featued equipped, the Moto and SciAt can record 2 HD shows at once, Sci At has built in PIP, but cannot skip even semi automatically. You pays your money and takes your choice.....
