Shucks! I thought the /2.0T meant Triple Layer.

If only! Just going by what we got, Drive I have here shipped with 2.0F, so the progression is atleast a few firmware revisions, which is actually great, but ya!

Nope don't use any rentals at all, and it's been in the shop for warranty repair twice. They refuse to take it back for a 3rd repair unless I pay them (was still within warranty when I tried to get it repaired again)..

It's taking long time to download. It took about 10 min to reach 10% point on 1.5 mbps dsl and still going.... I'm just glad it's here.

I hope, for all of us, that it is; however, I would hold my breath on this one.

I have my problematic media ready and will post back with results.

Yikes!!!!!!

Mine got to 95%, flashed that for awhile, then I got a message "server connection terminated". I have connected to a router, and PC internet connection was fine.

Waited for awhile, nothing. Pressed Setup button, the LED display said "setup" but I had a blank screen. I held in the Power button to re-set. It came back up, but blank screen on the TV. I have it connected with an HDMI>DVI cable that's always worked fine on my display's HDCP compliant DVI connection. On a lark, I hooked up an s-video cable and cycled through v.output after changing resolution to 480i. I got a display on my TV. I went through setup to Update, and it says my firmware is 2.1/1.0A/2.0T. So, hopefully I got all the update. Just no output on HDMI to DVI.

On hold with Toshiba Support as I type this. Fingers crossed!

You have to put DHCP ON and DNS also ON thats it then update it but do you have a router so it can give you a internal ip if you are connecting direct to modem put into your ip & other stuff try with that.
I have Proxy OFF.

I am receiving the internet signal from a linksys box and then ethernet cable directly into the player. I get codes on the DHCP on and DNS in the "on" position, but they are not highlighted, they are opaque. The NTP server is on the "ON" position as well. Network speed at 384Kbps DSl/cable. Nothing happens.
How long before the percentage changes from zero?

Trying to update here in the UK and still on zero after 15 minutes but no error messages.

I have DHCP and DNS turned on. The player shows an IP address in the correct range for my router and the address of my router for the DNS.

When I attempt the update I get the terms and conditions text, is this downloaded from the net or stored on the player? How can I be sure I am talking to the outside world?

Has anybody in the UK updated successfully?

took me about 10 minutes to go from 0 to 10, then 10 minutes to go from 10 to 20, then 10 minutes or so to finish and shut off...perhaps it's taking a break for tea

Hey remember BEFORE you update to check your ethernet settings in the setup menu (you are already there anyway). there is a setting since ver 2.0 firmware for connection speed. obviously set it to DSL or faster if you have Broadband. its default at like 56k!

just a public service reminder from a fellow forum member

I second the Stalingrad question. Anyone try it yet?

NTP turned off, still not working.

With DHCP off and DNS off the number are highlighted but I can not activate the "Confirm" position, as it goes straight to the "OK" position.

Only when the numbers are opaque I am able to hit "confirm" which then takes me to "OK", once I hit OK nothing happens.

Still no luck, run a cable straight from your cable/dsl modem to your player and setup ip stuff if you have a static ip if not set DHCP & DNS to ON and you should get automaticaly a ip from your modem.

Then press confirm.

What firmware are you trying to update from?

NTP setting should not affect anything, that's to set the player's clock via a time server.

DHCP & DNS should be both ON. DHCP lets the player get an IP address from your modem/router. DNS lets the player use your ISP's domain name server to resolve the IP address of the Toshiba server.

If you get an error message some about "no out", and can't find the internet connection or DNS. if it goes to Updating 0%, it's probably working OK. It took a few minutes for the 0% to change to 5%. It is slow, it took me 30-40 minutes to get to 95%.
Got the VUP Error 124 three times in a row sometime around 30% in each case.

It may just be network traffic, I don't know. I will try later.
guess the servers are starting to getting overloaded

Anyone have Stalingrad to test on 2.1 i hope it works so i can buy it asap.

Ok next update please let DTS-HD master be on list?

I had a similar problem that corrected when I dissconnected and re-applied power to the xa1.

I should imagine that everyone and their mother will be downloading this firmware within the next 48 hours. Maybe the servers are currently over burdened and that is why so many of you are experiencing poor/stalled download speeds?

P.S. Kudos to Toshiba. Speaking from experience, I can honestly say that Toshiba takes better care of their customers than Sony (at least up to this point). To see them continue to release firmware for a 1st generation product, long after the second generation was released is very encouraging. If they continue at this rate, the Xa1 may be very comparable to the xa2 by this summer. Which would be against their bottom line.. buy hey, i'm not complaining. After seeing this, all I can say is: "HD-DVD, here I come!" The wait for me is now over.

So maybe its not just my imagination.

I've noticed a better picture in about three discs now. Hard to believe but King Kong looks even better than before on my setup.

I've only got a 42 inch plasma so the improvement, if any, can be more authoritatively confirmed by someone with a larger screen.

Big scare for me, but all's well that ends well. Toshiba support said if my FW versions displayed 2.1/1.0A/2.0T, then I got all the update. They advised to turn the unit off, and then unplug it for a few minutes. I was disappointed to learn ther's no way to force the player to revert back to a lower FW version from a disk. That was always my "safety net", that I could revert back to the latest FW version I had from Toshiba if I had problems.

Anyway, I booted back up after unplugging the unit for several minutes, and popped in Happy Feet. Still blank screen on my HDTV from the HDMI>DVI connection. Toshiba had said to try unplugging the cable & plugging it back in if I still had problems. But I have an HDMI switcher. I just changed the switcher from the XA1 input, and the player's LED said "no HDMI connection", and then "Stop". I switched the HDMI switcher back to the XA1 and pressed "play". My TV screen flashed a few times, then it synced, and all was OK.

The 2.1 FW did help a little with Happy Feet. I had the dreaded lockup at the 28:45 mark last night. Tried it with the new 2.1 FW, it stuck at that point for a few seconds, and then continued playing.

Got mine updated. I took off while I was updating and when I got back the A1 was shut off. It did say 2.1 in my menu so its seems all is well. Now time to test out a few HD-DVD's.

i presume you were later than 90 days (meaning the labor was not covered) but less than 12 months (meaning parts were still covered)?
