Is soundon b ray /hd dvd tamed down ?

I just read the reviews of House of was and Flight of the Phoenix at hddvddigest.com and both audio reviews makes me think something is wrong.

On my system I recall HOUSE OF WAX had some nice dynamics and bass in the end in particular while F OF THE PHOENIX is a monster of bass.

i use speakers equipped with 15 and 18" gunners and there's about 3000watts behind (sensitivity is 98-99dB)

so what is your feeling ? if there's a difference in levels (while compression is reduced on bray and hd dvd) ? and if yes, the players ?

or is it like widescreenreview which is quite harsh on HD reviews, probably so they keep more pts in reserve as the mastering improves....

David600,
Br and HD lossless sounds like PCM off laserdisc. I know you remember those.
