100 Inch Diagonal Screen & JVC RS1

I am planning to install a HT with a 100 inch diagonal (16x9) screen and use the JVC DLA-RS1 projector.

This will be a ceiling mount installation, I will have no trouble locating the projector on the center line of the screen.

The ceiling height is 8 feet.

My question is how far back does the projector have to be?

Also how far down from the ceiling do you have to locate the projector?

What type of screen material?

MMC57: The user manual is available from the JVC web site, and it addresses these questions. Do read it. If you're in a hurry, the projector can range from just over 10 feet to just over 20 feet (1.4X to 2.8X the screen width of 87"), and the RS-1 lens can be placed anywhere from just over a foot above the top or a foot below the bottom of the screen (30% x 49" screen height). It can also be placed as far as 2.5 feet to either side of the screen center (34% x 87"). You can't get full vertical and full lateral offset at the same time, but it comes close. There will be some light falloff and additional chromatic abberation as you decenter. Keep the beam perpendicular to the screen.

I also have a 100" HP screen waiting for the RS-1.

If your situation, room size, light control, will accomodate it, my advice is get as big a screen as possible. My room is 24'X16' and I currently have a 110" diag. screen. Main seating is about 20 feet from the screen. After a few years it does not seem so big anymore. I'm picking up my RS1 on 4/6. Right now I am planning to get a 134" diag. 16X9 Carada screen for it. That's about as big a screen as will fit on my wall.

Maybe I should look at this differently, I guess what I am really asking, is for an 8' ceiling where should the screen be located vertically.

The main seating is about 18 feet away, I have concerns about the screen being too low.

If the screen is too high perhaps the project may be in the way.

If the screen top needs to be 13 or 14 inches from the ceiling then the bottom will be 34 to 32 inches from the floor(excluding the frame).

Is there a formula or standard pratice than tells a person where the center line of the screen should be with respect to vertical positioning.

Thanks for any advise.

Best thing to do is get the pj first, show it on your wall a week or two to decide just where you like it (and the size, since your preference for it may also change), and then order the screen.

I have a 8.3 ft (100") ceiling, and my 126"diag HP screen (62" H) is positioned so that the top of the screen material itself is 16" below the ceiling and the bottom is 22" above the floor. Works fine for me, but people have different preferences on this, so check it out for yourself.
