I would agree with Andrew above - you can't go "wrong" with EITHER of these two.
A while back, the BAAS conducted a comparison of CD / SACD players and DACs.
OB [ oneobgyn ] arranged for Philip Hanson, who was then the US distributor for
EMM Labs to bring along the EmmLabs CDSD transport, DAC6e convertor, and
Switchman 3 pre-amp.
The meet was hosted by forum member "tzucc"; and his resident dCS stack of
Verona transport, Purcell upsampler, and Elgar DAC participated, and the rest
of tzucc's system served as the testbed; Krell amps and Wilson X-1 speakers.
Forum member Jeffmac brought his Theta Digital Gen VIII and Accuphase transport.
All three transport/DAC setups were EXCELLENT!!!! It was really "splitting hairs" trying
to pick a winner. In fact, they were so close that my and others preference changed
based on what CD was playing. The EmmLabs was tops for some CDs, the dCS for
others, and the Theta for others.
You may be able to locate the AVS Forum thread about this in the archives; because we
discussed this at length. Additionally, these companies haven't been standing still for
the last year or two - they all have new and improved offerings.
Sorry, but you are going to have to do your own homework on this; and it will be TOUGH!!!
However, no matter which way you go; you will surely have a winner.
