I'm trying to output old DOS games in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and am having trouble getting it displayed on a 40" LCD HDTV, which has a native resolution of 1920 dots by 1080 lines.
This problem is isolated only to the LCD TV I am using because I am able to get the game to display correctly on an everyday use LCD Monitor (DVI->DVI connection). The LCD Monitor outputs the game successfully at the normal resolution I run it in, which is the maximum it can support: 1280 x 1024. But it's not a 16x9 widescreen monitor or anything fancy like the 1080p LCD TV I am having trouble with.
I am familiar with how Win XP has trouble handling sound from these old games
So to reiterate, this is a display problem not a sound issue. When I run the game on the LCD TV, I do get the sound of the game to come out successfully through the LCD TV's speakers, but the TV's picture just is completely blank (the whole screen) as if there is no picture to display. I can exit out of the game (Ctrl+alt+del) and return back to the Windows desktop and get the picture back and do other things but whenever I begin the game, the picture goes out.
I have tried changing the resolution of the GPU to low ones, or the maximum the TV an support which is 1920 x 1080. This problem happens both when using DVI-> HDMI and VGA cables (the TV has a VGA slot for PC use).
So I was wondering if anyone else has an issue with DOS games in particular, or if it might just be a limitation of my GPU to output a DOS game to the LCD TV in question. When I right click on the exe file of the dos game and go into the Properties, I have a few options/tabs regarding display configurations, which when I found thought would help fix the problem. Stuff like changing it to be window or full screen, or forcing a certain resolution like 640 x 480...I tried fiddling with some of these but it doesn't seem to help...maybe I haven't tried everything though...
Thanks for any help in advance. I just remembered I haven't tried using DOSBOX yet so maybe that will help...
