earth defense force 2019: Worth buying?

Gd morning! I know we have a separate thread for this game, but I'm just wondering what people generally think of this game for 40 bucks. Worth buying? It got 4 stars on gamespy and it looks like a great blast em up. I'm just curious about the replay value here. This game kind of looks to me like serious sam on steroids: huge explosions, etc but a little lacking in the replay department. Thanks in advance
post #2 of 33
Totally worth it. It's like the ultimate B-movie experience in video game form. It's a game where the flaws actully make the game more endearing, rather than detract from it. And the replay value is pretty good, I've already beat it on Easy, Normal on co-op, and am going back on Normal and Hard alone, and will eventually try Hardest and Inferno. With 53 levels and over 150 weapons to collect, it's very addicting, a great game you can just pickup at any time and blast through a few missions.

Hell no dont do it. You can rent it and finish it before you get rid of it. Game takes no skill and is cake. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY>

i had the game in hand today at eb games. Was trading in a crap poker game with howard lederer and burnout and 20 credit. The guy comes back with an opened copy of the game. I asked him if it was new and he said that it was but it was the last copy. I made the remark that it was pretty generic to be buying something new, yet it was open and the employees in there were handling discs. Come to find out they didn't even have the copy. Lame. Those people deserve to have their skin torn off and roasted before their very eyes!
most the games at places like that are open. they keep the discs behind the counters and the cases on display up front.

usually they'll have sealed copies for games that they carry a lot of, but if they only have 1 in stock, they have to have 1 case on display, therefor the disc will be in the drawer behind the counter.

played it by a friend. cool game but i dont even think $40 is cheap enough. prob do better renting for a week.
I rented it for me and my 6 yo to play and i have to admit, its really fun. I would wait to get it when its 20-30 bucks though. The graphics arent up to par theres like 1 character model for the good guys and 4-5 for the bad guys, but if your like me and just wanted to play something with your kid it is worth a rent atleast. The most fun is unlocking the carpet bomb grenade launcher. Theres just something about aiming hi, letting er rip and watching the chaos ensue. Great fun!

How the heck should we know the game isn't released or announced to be released yet.

Sorry had to do it joking for the fact that it is 2017 instead of 19

saw this game on OXM disc. I'd totally spend $40 on this.

$20 on game, $10 for 6 pack, and $10 for that....then i could play this just fine!
It's a simple, fun, brainless title. You get to blow up lots of buildings and kill huge numbers of giant insect aliens and evil robots. Local co-op only is about the only complaint (no Live support).

I love this $20 game as a mindless fun FPS in the mode of Serious Sam series without the puzzle levels. The first few levels are deceiving and then Bam! Wow the intensity is amazing and it's as if my controller is going to fly out of my hands at times.

The intensity is quite something and going from "Normal" to "Hard" seems to be a quirk as it's one notch up but damn it's often impossible in some levels the difference in that one level is huge in this game and it forces you to back to early levels and play harder to get better weapons because without some of those weapons it's hopeless.

TIP! Don't ever finish a level by killing the last enemy on radar without gathering up all weapons first - you never know which may be a jewel you'll need later on in the game and I didn't discover this until the 13th level in the spider caves and needed Bound weapons I ignored earlier just by killing everything and had to go back and redo to gather upgraded weapons for a killer weapon like the Bound Special wepaon that ricochets bullets off the walls of the Spider caverns. Playing the game mindlessly and without strategy has it's penalties later on.

There are over 150 weapons and some of them are humorous as hell to watch in action like the Tortoise Missile as it follows Godzilla around in slomo until it hits with huge destruction but he's no piece of cake to destroy as the Missile takes ten seconds to reload - it took me over a dozen attempts of replay and constantly moving out of range as fast as he runs at times and his size and when he breathes Fire forget it if your in it's midst. Carefully choose your weapons as you only get to carry two into battle. I love the Rapid fire Sniper Rifle man could that thing kick some butt in Halo3. Playing this on my 57" Sharp LCD gives it a huge scale and many levels the vastness and size of the landscape and characters is enormous - think "Independence Day" it's on the scale of those ships.

There was one level I played last night with the three Mother Ships above dropping the Robots and these Robots appear to be about 10-20 stories tall each and at Normal I destroyed it all within about three minutes and then took the level up one notch to Hard and damn I was lucky to even last three minutes no matter what I did or choices of weapons I could not even come close and so the difference between Normal and Hard is the most extreme I've ever witnessed in any game and then there are two levels above that at Hardest and Inferno - so some may find that frustrating but that could never match the frustration of the Cortana Level of Halo3.

Still playing on after 15 hours game-play and played less than half the game content loving every minute but hoping for a few cheat codes to master the harder levels and of course the walkthroughs recommend not using any of the vehicles the game provides but in some cases they can be used as cover. Finishing the game and then going back to play with different weapons is great fun which I've done with Halo3 for six months now and the AI is a little smarter than the AI in Halo1 and also destructible if in your path so be careful in some areas so they can take the fight while you take out other areas.

I've finished Halo3 at Legendary but this is a total different beast that I find entertaining and humorous and the destructibility in it's own right and those complaining of ease must have done the game at easy level which could be boring but damn step it up and confess did you even last more than a few minutes at the Hard, Hardest or Inferno levels?

Some of the best game-play for $20 on Amazon Fun for FPS freaks but may not be a RPG game players cup of tea as I hated Mass Effect and sold it after playing for about an hour and Love this mindless corny crap - my ID10T network users are the enemy in my mind when I get home from putting up with their crap they are in my sights for destruction within this game - safe venting IMO.

Star-ship Troopers Unite - EDF! EDF!! EDF!!!

It does look like Starship Troopers, which is why I want to try it.

LOL @ SLOTH/whiskey...

This is a great budget title IMO and those that say it is simple haven't tried it on the harder/ hardest settings because trust me it is not. There is a lot of play time in this game especially if your trying for the 1000 pts.

Cheers

Fun little game, but I bet you can find it used much cheaper than that.

My Blockbuster is having a buy one game $14.99 or less, get 1 free. Earth defense was marked $9.99, so I basically got it for $5 once I picked out another $9.99 game.

THANKS jholzbauer I went down to Blockbuster and we got that deal going too. Earth Defense Force for 9.99 and Kameo: elements of power 9.99. Both for 10 bucks. You guys should go take a look. Some ok titles were there like tomb raider legend, xbox backwards like Dreamfall, Half Life 2

Glad to help you. I always get a kick out of your commentary on the forums, so it was the least I could do.

I would highly recommend Kameo and Tomb Raider: Legend for anyone who can get for $5.

I got some quality time in with this game and I'm pretty happy for five bucks. Huge exploding bugs! I was playing it last night and couldn't believe what was going on. There's this huge UFO above the city and the alien "air force" just pours out. The whole sky is just full of these big weird metal things. It was outstanding!!! I can't wait to see how this mayhem looks on the projector tonight on the 120 inch screen. And the dialogue, man is that just corny fun. Sure, I turned down their voices a bit, but it is fun to hear them getting melted over the com links. Kameo, that seems pretty decent too. Kind of kiddie, but looks really good. Overall great deal.

I bought this game over a year ago and STILL play it from time to time. As far as bang-to-buck ratio, no other game I've bought in the last few years comes close.
Full price? May be not but if you can find it in a bargain bin that would be awesome.

It is a fun, brainless & simple FPS that can be quite intense at time. Also, if you like Starship Troopers type of movie you may like this one.

I love this game, it is one of my top 10 of this gen so far. The fact that you can have dozens and dozens of enemies coming at you at once makes this feel like a true next gen title (the graphics are good, but not great, and the AI isn't that good, but you will rarely have time to notice that) The difficulty levels are nice (start on easy to get a feel for it then go to normal mode, avoid hard for a while as you will get whipped fast) And the final boss battle has more stuff going on in it than most RTS games, you have to see it to believe just how intense this level is.

It is also nice that you can farm a few of the later levels. The two dino mech fight later on is easy to farm on Inferno thanks to the battle mech that will rip them a new one, beat one and greatly weaken the other and run like heck to get the weapon drop from #1 (if it doesn't drop one, retry the level) and get back to the mech and finish the fight, you will get some insanely good weapons out of it, makes hard mode feel like easy again.

Must go to my local Blockbusters and see if they have this because at that price it is totally worth it. Currently through renting(since have returned) I have about 15 levels left on Inferno but can see those taking quite awhile as I already logged about 45 hours getting to the point I am at now in the game. When on Hardest and Inferno you most definitely need to have a co-op person for a couple of the levels. Right now I am only missing 2 weapons, the Lysander Z and the last 1 you get for Inferno. Overall a great game and if I can somehow get this for the price you guys are getting at Blockbuster it is a steal.

had another big session last night with this and some other new games I got. Still can't believe I got this for 5 boogs. It is like Serious Sam, only much better
