This may be wrong, but I have come to the conclusion that almost all, if not all brands have a "house sound".

I purchased a Denon DCM-270 a few years back to replace a Sony CDP-345 ?, not sure of the model number.

I know the changer I bought was much less costly than the player your looking at. However I ended up having to buy another Sony, this time an ES model, a CA-70ES.

I was not able to adjust to the different sound I got from the Denon. It didn't matter if I hooked it up analog or by dig coax and used my Rotel RSX-972's DAC. I just didn't like it.

To be fair, the bass was very defined, but the overall sound was grating to my ears. I guess I prefer the smoothness I had become accustomed to with a Sony.

I use the Denon 2900 as a transport with a Bel Canto Dac1.1 with good results. I know other who use that machine as a transport with the Benchmark Dac 1 and they like it. I find that the dacs are more important than the transport once you get to a certain level of quality. IMHO.

If you not gonna use the DAcs in the Denon then there isn't much point to it. It's not the greatest transport from the speed point of view, because it plays so many formats.

I would get this if you can. I did.

The 2900 also has had many reported problems with the optical reader.

Mine had to be replaced once, so beware.
