2007 Onkyo AVR (TX-NR905, TX-SR875,805,705,605,575,505) Anticipation Thread - Page 5

The 805 is using the same HQV Reon chip as the XA2. The Realta is the next step up.

I am wondering the same thing. I can't seem to find a conclusive answer on here about this. I want to have as few cords going to my TV as possible, and I really hope that the 605 would take the component inputs and output it through HDMI.

If the 605 doesn't do this will the 705?

Anyone here know for sure? If the 605 will do this I will pre-order it tonight.

I have that info on the 1st post. But it is my assumption it will be like the 604 although they could have changed it to be like the 674. there's no concrete info out that will tell us until the 605 is out. If the 605 doesn't I'm sure the 705 will since it's the direct replacement of the 674.

Thanks for the help. The problem seems that no one knows for sure, but there are people saying in the HD DVD forum in the thread about the 605 that this thread confirms that it will take any input and output it through HDMI but I can't find anything that confirms it in here unless I am missing it.

That is the prolem with these new items. There never seems to be enough info.

I guess I will just have to wait and see when they start shipping and someone gets their hands on one to test it out.

Yes it will. All video inputs can be transcoded to HDMI...just like the flagship TX-NR1000.

HDMI and Component Video Upconversion for a Single
Output to High-Resolution Displays

The TX-SR605's HDMI inputs can receive pristine digital video from
HDMI-enabled components for a single-cable output to a display
device with an HDMI or DVI connection. It can also upconvert analog
signals to HDMI so that all connected video sources can be output via
one cable. And if your display doesn't have HDMI capability, you can
use the HD-quality component video connections, which will also
cover your S-Video and composite video sources. To support
progressive scan, the TX-SR605 features a deinterlacing chip with
Faroudja DCDi Edge (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing). This
technology helps to effectively eliminate video artifacts from HDTV
images.

I'm considering the 805, but I currently use the Toshiba HD-XA2 to play SD-DVD. The upscaling on the player will be superior to the receiver. Does the player upscale HDMI inputs? Will this degrade my PQ? Is there a way to shut it down on one of the inputs, so I can have it running just for my cable/DVR input?

The audio codecs and the low prices sound great, but if its going to degrade my PQ, I think I'll just go with a Denon 2807, pass the True HD over PCM to the receiver and hope that someday soon, SONY adds DTS-MA to the PS3.

Any input would be appreciated.

I believe that you can just pass through HD input "unscathed."

I preordered the 605....Ill fleabay my 604 in a couple weeks.

It should work nicely with my XA2 and PS3.

If you wish to use a single video cable (HDMI) for all of your video inputs (analog and digital), then you must get the 605 or above. The 505 or 575 require separate analog and digital video connections to your display.

The original post said that the 805 was using the Faroudja. Was this incorrect?

No Problem. I was hoping you were right. 1k for the reon and the HD Audio was gonna make me jump away from the Denon I had selected right away. Now I'm back to square one with the same indecision I had before.

I have the TX1000 and can say these newer receivers look terrific. Kudos to Onkyo for offering the best bang for the buck in the business! Wow! The 905 is awfully tempting. Hopefully being a 1000 owner will pay off if they offer us newer HDMI cards...

Actually the 805/875/905 all have the Reon
Just that the 875/905 actually upscale.

Can you correct the first post with that information?

Can you be specific? Do you mean the 805 only uses the ReonVX to transcode (component input -> HDMI output)?

I wish someone would post the brochure for download.

If some of these will decode TrueHD and Master Audio does that mean Dolby Digital Plus will also be decoded?

I looked at the PDF again there seems to be a contradiction It says in the Entry point that the 805 is the entry point for Reon but under features it says Farudjia I think they messed up and meant the 875 was the entry to Reon. Sorry for the confusion. Unless Eric has info I don't I'll leave it as it is on the 1st post that.
Anybody have any idea what sort of output resolutions can be specified for the 875 and higher with the Reon?
in regards to the 605...

How will this receiver SOUND?
It can decode all the codecs in the world but if the DAC's aren't great...
I am very tempted but am also currently happy with the sound of my few years old pioneer (elite guts but non elite) It has decent DAC's supposedly.
Anyone know what to expect sound quality wise?

thanks! d
