bfdtv, another Q. The PDF talks about Deep Color support, 36bits, and how this will lessen banding etc. Is that just the Deep Color marketing speak, or is there support in the VX chip for expanding the color space on what it gets off disc?

And, do we have any clue WHICH ReonVX chip it is? Is it the VX-50, VX-51, VX-110, VX-200 or VX-210? My guess is VX-50... Can't wait for a review of any of the Reon units. Hope they get the implementation right!

Still that is good pricing considering what the 605 can do!

It's returnable with a 15% hit, so it's really not worth it. I suppose I have a PS3 so it really doesn't matter much because the PS3 will do the decoding itself.

Oh well, at least I saved $100.

I did the exact same thing. My 604 from J&R arrived just yesterday when I saw the info about the 605 for just $30 more. Did anyone find out if it is really much better yet (other than the HDMI connection)?

Also, is there any word on whether the 605 is coming in silver too, and if so, whether it will be cheaper, the way that the 604S is cheaper than the 604B?

Maybe a slap on the wrist from Onkyo? If the MAP is $499, then they can't advertise it for less than that.

The 605 will be available in both black and silver (same price).

They didn't advertise it at that price. Like all other online vendors they advertise MSRP but if you add it to your cart you saw the special price.

Man, I am glad I pulled the trigger late last night when it was still at $399. I was really close to just waiting, too.

Even the 605 has multi-channel analog ins.

Folks around here caused too many pre-orders at the $399 price, I guess. No need to sell it that cheaply.
Ya they must of seen a huge spike and was wondering what the heck was going on. I also think that it could be that they simply ran out of their allotted pre-orders. Especially since some people were reporting they were told it is on backorder.

Used up the credit line...

Just called J&R and the guy said the pre-order price had been adjusted to match MSRP. He said it is more likely that the price will go down just before it is released in May. Who knows, but it looks like the $399 deal is dead for now.

Looks like Onkyo is doing a bit of an update...Hopefully that means they're adding the 605/705 et al.

Lets hope so. The 705 in June would be nice.

How does the Oynko's 905 video processing compare to the coming Sherwood R-972? The Onkyo touts "HQV Reon-VX Video Processing and NSV Precision Video", and I havent found what the Sherwood uses and the features of each.

Note: The MSRP price of the Sherwood is $500 less and it
has six HDMI inputs.

The old stuff is now disgustingly cheap. The SR804 has fallen into my price range (actually, I noticed the huge discount and came here to see if new models were coming out).

Pretty much any receiver will be better than the one I have (a 15+ year old Sony with a ground problem, I'll miss the ol' girl). But since seeing this much industry jargon together makes my eyes glaze over, I'll just ask you people rather than giving myself a headache trying to sift it.

Compared to the 605 (the highest new model in my range), is there any significant reason for me to not pull the trigger now? I will be buying a HD television in a few months (the Samsung HLT6189S, more than likely), and I may buy some of the newer consoles late this year. I have surround speakers already (came with the house), though I will probably replace those later on (have to figure out how to get them out of the wall without damage). Judging from some of the posts here, the new DAC and the HD stuff are the sparkling new features. Are they worth the wait and model difference to a non-expert like myself? Anything else I should consider?

Amazon and JR seemed to have taken the 605 off their websites this afternoon.

Should I get the 604 or the 605? I have a Panny plasma with HDMI (not 1.3). So what would I get out of the 605 that I wouldnt get out of the 604 givin my tv doesnt have HDMI version1.3? Would I still get True HD audio if I bought a Bluray or HD-DVD player? Would that be worth it? I could prob get a steal on the 604 once the 605 comes out. What do you guys think?
Anybody do a side to side comparison?
I just bought a 674 last week, should I take it back and wait for the 605?

you should wait 'til it gets back to $399, like it was yesterday!

I am very jealous of the people getting their new receiver (605) next month!

After the pain of waiting for the RS1 I can't believe I signed up for another pre-buy. Hopefully J and R gets enough in their first shipment to cover all their orders.

Highly doubtful! They can only get so many at a time...

At least the Onkyo warehouse is right across the Hudson from J&R in Joisey.

The backorder email states specifically that this email is automatic for any pre-order item.
