Buying it for display! Cool! That's all I wanted to know. Just questions.

Some people never watch the movies they buy. I can think of several people I know personally that still have VHS tapes shrink wrapped. If you bought a movie and want to watch it a month or even a year or two later, then that's cool. It's never watching it that puzzled me.

EDIT: Hey Rat! Why did you delete that post I just quoted above?

It would seem there's a lack of brain capacity in this thread to truly appreciate the QUALITY collection you have invested your money into.

To start off with, you have the German Pinocchio Limited Edition wooden box (only 3000 ever made)... that alone is a show-stopper right there. If you sell it on Ebay you could easily get 5x-6x what you originally paid for it. Its truly a collector's item.

Also, your Steelbook collection is very cool. You even imported the Twilight Steelbook from Spain... now THAT'S a diehard collector, lol.

As for the rest of your collection, very impressive list of movies.

I am not envious, but in fact, I am happy for you.

From one die-hard blu-ray collector to another, I really think you have an awesome collection... enjoy your movies!

No harrassing. Just questions. No need to get defensive. If you want to buy a movie and keep it shrink wrapped for the rest of your life, by all means, go ahead. Don't let me stop you.

You keep missing the point. Just because some of us buy a movie and it is still shrink wrapped does not mean we will never watch it or we wasted our money. In my case I have picked up a number of movies that I wanted recently but have not had time to watch them yet because:
A. I am hooked on Madmen and am renting the seasons on Netflix so it has cut down on movie watching
B. Football season has started and I spend more time watching college/pro football
C. I am just not in the mood this second to watch a movie that I bought and enjoy.

I have some movies that that I picked up on the cheap and it took me over a year to watch them. I simply left them shrink wrapped. That is the nice thing about having a large collection of movies, you can pick a movie based on your mood that day.

I just don't understand the concept that you have to watch a movie as soon as you buy it.
I have about 95 Blurays and I have about 15-20 of them that I haven't watched. Why? Because most of those were picked up during a sale, for cheap, etc. I don't feel the need to watch them at the moment but if I did, I have them available.

For me, it's a hobby to collect them. I don't just buy movies that look or sound good (I did with DVD, though), I buy movies that I like. No, I may not watch them for a year, but I have them. Also, sometimes, I'm in the mood to watch select scenes or parts of a movie, not the whole thing. If I didn't own them, I wouldn't have the luxury of doing that when I feel the need to to. I'd have to wait for it to arrive in the mail.

I also collect video games. Again, only the ones I like. I may not play a game for two years but I like to have them around in case I get the urge. There is nothing wrong with that. Could it save me money by selling the ones that I don't play often? Not really because in the end I would be losing money if you consider I buy most of my games at retail stores for $60. It's just something I like to do.

Now consider all the other hobbies people have where they literally throw their money away. Some people are avid beer and liquor drinkers (*not alcoholics, mind you). They can easily spend upwards of $100 on a bottle of scotch. That's something they enjoy, I may not fully understand it but it's not for me to judge. To me, it's far more worth it to spend $30 on a movie that I have forever than it is to spend $100 on a 750mL of bottle of scotch only to have it gone in a short period of time. But again, it's a person's perogative to decide on their own hobby.

I have no problem with people and how they spend their money. A lot of people throw thousands into a car to only have it look, not perform, better. Why is it so hard to understand that? A hobby is supposed to fun, and people have that fun in different ways.

Wow! I agree with you 100%. Now I should tell that to my dad. He nags me to no end because I buy a lot of "trashy" movies, but with him, it's ok for him to buy tons of beer every week. He's not an alcoholic or anything. He just loves beer. But yeah, people today need to learn to respect each person's way of spending.

My apologies if my posts sounded harsh. Like I said, I was just curious and was just questioning. I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm telling you how to spend your money.

I see. Well if you get your movies discounted, that's a different story. But I have to say, even though I made a few criticisms, you really have a nice collection of movies there. In fact, I envy you. So if I keep on criticizing, that just means I'm jealous.

Even with 21 movies, sometimes people organize them or place them with holders or shelves that might be interesting or spur off other ideas. As JDHuskey mentioned, seeing other peoples setup is part of the fun. Although my collection is large, there are many people out there with substantially larger ones than myself and that's awesome! But the best part is when I see how they organize their collection and what other novelty items they put them together with.

I'm not offended in anyway, I've had other members say the same thing about some movies being wrapped. None of them know my circumstances and what I enjoy, so there is no reason that I would be offended by their comments.

I was beginning to wonder why no one noticed my Pinocchio wooden box It's definitely one of the interesting items I have. The cost is not as extravagant as you might imagine. I paid a higher price than buying from Amazon.de directly, I think $80 and now there is a listing on Ebay for $130. But I didn't want to miss the opportunity on a limited run of the Disney collectible. Steelbooks are getting expensive since Futureshop is release 12 more in the coming months. I'll probably end up getting at least 8 or 9 of them. However, their value could rise as in the case of Iron Man and I Am Legend. There's a listing on Ebay now for an opened copy bidding over $140.00 and if I'm not mistaken, the Iron Man will also run over $100. And I won't even bother to explain why Twilight is there.

One of the more obscure things I like is my Appleseed HD DVD set. It's easy to get off Ebay and I paid more than what it's selling now however being that I work in the print and packaging manufacturing industry, excellent boxsets always perk my interest! Import section mod, kannisto, over at HDD posted some excellent pictures and anyone who has this set can attribute the high quality of workmanship and details that were put into the set.

Isn't this thread for the die-hards like us

They're just on a shelf. If people think my 21 movies will be fun to see, I'll post pictures, but I just ordered 2 more movies at Amazon, so I'll wait for those to arrive first before I post anything. I have a rather small shelf that holds exactly 23 movies. So, when I receive the movies I ordered, my shelf will be filled up. So I have to start clearing out the junk on the upper and lower shelves so I can make room for any additional movies I buy later on.

EDIT- Wow! I just tracked my Amazon package just now and it arrived at the post office this morning. So I should receive the package today. If I do, I'll post pictures of my collection tonight.

So sorry that I promised to post pictures and didn't. Since no one has posted in this thread in a long time to bump it up, I completely forgot about it.

Anyways, here is my picture of my BD collection. I only have 23 right now. I just moved my collection last week to another shelf so I have room for more BDs in the future.

Here's the picture of my blu-ray Steelbook collection.
I don't have any recent pics of my blu-ray collection, so here's the best part.

click on the picture for full size resolution. (1080x1920)

There's about 15 ordered on the way and arround 50 pre-ordered it will soon surpass my blu-ray collection.

Cheers,
Gui.

Nice, I like. Is it not difficult to look at the spines and get a movie though? Looks like it would be kinda awkward from the picture. Or do your friends call you Sasquatch? :P

Nice collection tiger, not that I didn't already know you had that collection I really regret not buying a IAL German from JW when I had the chance, I remember it was only around $40! I gave up on John Rambo, but I do have 3 Iron Mans FS and 1 IAL FS Is the German Iron Man worth anything, don't see them on Ebay too often so not sure what the public value of it is.

They might say I'm crazy when I'm not arround.

Oh they aren't extras, I have my opened copy to watch and my sealed one for collection. I'm only collecting sealed Steelbooks with no dents, dings, scratches or tears in the factory sealed so far I'm 2 away from World completion...

I need Final Fantasy VII from Taiwan with UPC, I have one sealed but without UPC. I also nned Sweeney Todd (play.com exclusive) from UK, this special edition came with a booklet on the back of the Steelbook sealed together. I own it now but the different UPC was a sticker on the seal and my copy is opened so I need another one. I thought it was the booklet UPC but it isn't...

I have the 5 others FF VII and the "regular" sealed Sweeney Todd but these two seems impossible to find.

Cheers,
Gui.

Thanks, the last time I saw Iron Man MM it was on eBay.de and it was sold 120 EUR. It's almost as expensive as the one from FS, I'm glad I got it on release date. Wow you must be really mad for not buying IAL for only $40, I paid arround $60 CAD shipped for mine and it's a bargain. (soon after release day)

3 Iron Man FS?
Nice, really nice.
I only have 2.

Cheers,
Gui.

Yeah, I always feel the same way about my movies. There comes a time when I realize that I have too many movies of one genre. At Best Buy yesterday, they were playing the "Monsters vs. Aliens" BD on an HDTV and it looked so amazing and lifelike. That made me realize that I need to get some CGI animated movies on BD. I have absolutely none.
I will find that I have been getting nothing but say, drama for a month or so, and realize that I'm getting short on another genre. Then I'll start collecting that one, until I realize that I'm missing something else.

I got M v A at wal-mart, really looks fantastic but the art style was very akin to previous dreamworks movies. This is, IMO their best movie since the first Shrek. Bee Movie, Shark Tale, Over the Hedge...none of their others come close to shrek, until now. Having said that though, every dreamworks movie just comes off to me as a slapped together project/kids movie, whereas Pixar just comes off as pure art in motion. It would be hard to convince me that dreamworks is anywhere close to the same level as Pixar artistically, and technically, while the gap is much narrower, they are still a ways behind.

I need to get some more shelving for my dvd/bd collection. I'm a case person but as it is right now, I don't have room for my tv season box sets, and I have a huge stack of movies that isn't filed simply because I'm nearly out of room altogether.

Finally took some updated pics...

I also have Blade Runner and Terminator 3, but since I don't have the cases they aren't pictured.

Hey! You have Weeds Seasons 1-3. So do I. Great show, isn't it? I'm still working on getting Season 4. It's $30 everywhere I go. I'm waiting for a price drop.
You probably won't have to wait too too long, I think it's rumored season 5 is going to hit Blu in January.

I think it should have ended after the 2nd season, I haven't started watching season 5 yet, but I think it's goign in a downward spiral...

Yeah, everyone is saying the same thing. Seasons 1-2 were good. Season 3, while not the best, was still not so bad. I haven't started Seasons 4-5 yet. I figured I'd just buy them if I find them cheap. Are you planning on getting Season 4 on BD or is it really that bad that you're going to pass?

OMG, what a waste of money, you actually bought Weeds? The first season was great, after that it just started to get really far stretched and I just can't seem to let it suspend my disbelief after the first season. Nancy gets more and more annoying, she just smiles too damn often. I wouldn't have bought any of those movies that you have, such a waste of money.
