Yeah, the roulette deal was the stupidest thing he did....gets lucky enough to hit a number straight up and then lets it ride?? I think his biggest gambling problem is that he's a terrible gambler.
The roulette bet was really stupid. But rather than show he is a terrible gambler, I think it shows that it is the thrill not the actual winning of money that is the root of it.
It is all just a game to him. It is as if they are all playing with monopoly money.
Now all of a sudden, for the first time, losing hurts.
He was always harping on the "degenerate gamblers", because they threw their life away because of gambling.
