White spot on Sony KDF-50E2000

Hello all,

I have searched this forum to see if this has been discussed but had no such luck. If anyone can answer this question for me I would really appreciate it. I bought a sony KDF-50E2000 LCD tv about 6 months ago. Just noticed last night a white streak/spot about 4 or 5 inches long just off the middle of my tv when turned off. I only notice this when I open my blinds to my sliding glass door and direct sunlight shines on it. When I close them I cannot see it. I also don't notice the white spot/streak when actually watching the tv. Has anyone with this tv or other lcd's experiences this? Is it normal? I still have 6 months left on my warranty so I guess if it is defective I can use that. I called sony and they said they have never heard of such a thing. Can anyone tell me if my tv is defective? If I did not provide enough details please tell me what else you would need to know as I am worried that I have wasted $1400 dollars. Again, thanks to anyone who can shed some light.

It's on my Sony too. I see it on most bulb based rear projection tvs, including DLPs. I don't know for sure, but I think it is something to do with the materials the screen is made with, and isn't anything serious. Like you said, I don't see anything at all when watching tv. I only see it when it's turned off, so I don't concern myself with it.

Thanks! But I am worried cause I never noticed it before. An now I just noticed that even if the tv is on and the screen is totally black I can see it. So there is nothing to repair on my tv? If there is I only have 6 months left on my warranty. Anyone else experience this?

It been on my tv since I bought it 3 years ago. This however does not affect the picture in any way.

Well I eventually had it send in for fixing. They said it would be a new screen assembly. I got it back and it does the same thing. White cloudy looking deals when screen is dark with sunlight on it. Anyone else have this before and if so what is the problem?

Joe - This occurs on all rear projection tv's because of reflections of ambient light. The Sony manual for my tv (A10) states: "If direct sunlight or other strong illumination shines on the screen, part of the screen may appear white due to reflections from behind the screen. This is a structural property of the TV." It's normal for this to happen, so forget about it.
