No 1080P TV/Projector/Display in near future, should I just get an A2 or save for XA2

Hey guys,

I have a Sanyo Z4 FP, its a native 720P projector. I do not see a 1080P display or projector in my near future. From what I can tell, the big difference between the A2 and the XA2 is the fact that XA2 outputs 1080P and A2 outputs 1080i (please correct me if I am wrong).
IF that is true, I see no reason to waste any time and save money for XA2 when all I need is a 1080i/720P HD DVD player.
DO I have this right or am I missing anything?

A couple of things that can make you prefer XA2. For starters i have a720P projector to so I am in the same situation.

My proj cant take in 1080/60P but it can take in 1080/24P and display that 720/24hz. So there XA2(EX1) will have an advantage after the summer upgrade.

XA2 does the best upscaling in the market (more or less)

XA2 does output 5,1 analog wich make it possible for me to listen to dolbytrueHD with my current reciver.

Pretty much as said...if you have a large SD-DVD collection I would consider waiting for the XA2....however if you plan to phase out and switch to all HD-DVD then the A2. Its been stated that the image quality of the A2/XA2/A20 are pretty much identical on HD-DVD when viewing a 1080i image (which you will be). As for the analog outs, I decided to take the $300 difference and put it towards a new Onkyo receiver that will handle HDMI audio such as the TX-SR604 or the upcoming 605

My receiver does have Digital (both coax and optical) inputs,, but it does not have HDMI. Does the A2 or the XA2 for that matter, output separate digital signal even when connected to a display directly via HDMI.
I guess what I am asking is if its possible on either players to output video via HDMI, and then choose to output sound via optical or coax digital?

Yeah that is how the A2 hooks up with optical toslink out if you dont have HDMI

The XA2 has HDMI, optical toslink, or analog out

kam, I guess it just depends on how bad you want Dolby True HD sound. If you do, then go for the XA2. If not snag the A2 and run an optical cable.
