SA-8300 Dual Output?

I am trying to output an SA-8300 to two HDTV's at the same time, but as soon as the tv with the hdmi connection is powered on (or switched to that input), the set with the component connection loses video. Does anyone know of a way to have the SA-8300 send signals to BOTH Component and HDMI outputs simultaneously or is it simply impossible? Thanks.

What is the SA-8300?

I had a recorder that would not ouput over component if the selected resolution is above 480p. Try changing the HDMI output to 480p and see if that works.

SA-8300 is the Scientific Atlanta DVR provided by Cablevision in New Jersey. I also have a TiVO Series 3 (HD) hooked up the same way and it DOES support simultaneous output to hdmi & component.

The SA8300HD with passport software does not support simultaneous component and HDMI output. Unfortunately you're stuck with one or the other. It will simultaneously output either HDMI or component and s-video or composite, although if you're using composite, you lose component as the composite jack is in fact one of the component jacks. Best bet there would be a distribution switch. Monoprice has them for a good price. You just need a 1x2 switch.

Thanks - I looked at Monoprice's switch earlier and the least expensive was about $150 - I was hoping for a less expensive option . I actually am running a second output right now via RF cable, but obviously that's not an ideal solution.

Okay, my appologies. Amplified splitters are a little pricey. There is a less elegant, more simplistic solution. Monoprice has splitters for the both component and HDMI. The reviews on the HDMI splitter were all positive, the component, not so much. The major complaint seems to be signal degredation. But, if both TV's have HDMI inputs, this may work. Not sure how the box would handle both HDCP handshakes though. Anyway, for under $20, this may work.
