I have Comcast cable service and recently had issues with a cable line in my house. My digital box could no longer communicate to get info from Comcast. I swapped it for a new DVR for an upgrade. However, it turns out the line had a staple in it in the basement.

As a result, I was getting a small amount of electrical current in the line. I had hooked the DVR up to this line before I realized the problem.

Comcast replaced the line and tested it, and everything has been working fine.

However, I am wondering if these boxes have protection against current in the line or if the box could be damaged by this? It is working fine, so I have no real reason to believe that the box was hurt by the electrical current in the line.
