Re. new ballast for Toshiba 52HM84: I purchased it from Conns - Toshiba 23122468 Lamp Ballast, $114.95. Could not find it any cheaper. Thanks for all the tips - they all helped. It was not an easy task. 14 screws to take off the back cover. 3 screws to release the vertical steel support strip. 2 screws to release the light engine tray. 4 screws to take off the cover on the left. 2 screws to release the screws on the left tray. As Mirwin101 said, needed to pull out both the trays since the cable clearances were not enough and rest them on a table of similar height. Now you can access the ballast board. The ballast board pops out real easily (has plastic clips on four corners) but replacing the cable to the light bulb was a pain since it required the steel frame holding the connector to the light bulb to be opened, to release it (2 more screws, difficult to access). Then you do the whole thing in reverse. Note: The TV does not power up until the light bulb door is closed. I landed up with two extra screws when I was done - hopefully the TV will not miss them too badly!! Saved $400! Thanks everyone.

This thread is really standing the test of time... I have twice had to replace lamps in my 52HM84. Each time I heard it pop and it was obvious that it had blown. Now I am having a problem similar to what others have described here. Every couple weeks or so the TV does not come on and after the standard 8 tries, I get the 1-second interval blinking red & green lights. The manual says to replace the lamp and if the problem persists to see a tech. Well, I suspect this problem is going to continue after shelling out $170 for a new lamp so I am inclined to believe it's the ballast given past experience and what I have read here. Is that a logical assumption? That if the problem is intermittent, it is probably the ballast and not the lamp?

I have had my set for 5 years now and not as unfortunate as most until recently. I purchased a new bulb on line because my original expired after
approximately 7000 hours . Purchased a replacement bulb and the pic was not as bright as before. However, since I was desperate to see my favorite shows i gratiously humbled myself to an inferior display. that lasted for about two days. Went without a set in the family room for about two weeks, when my son who hadnt visited for three weeks comes in, relaxes in my designated spot and resumes command of the remote. Meanwhile I'm on the second level hearing the familiar sounds of an old friend emitting from the family room. It was the Toshiba 72" . Well again i savored the moment and watched until 12 midnight . Woke the next morning, and nothing. So i read all these complaints and suggestions from different sources. I decide to order a ballast but in my search i find that no one has the ballast. finally I find the ballast on ebay for $ 79.00 . recieved the ballast installed it and the set worked for two days then nothing. I decided to test both ballasts and it seems one has a DC output of 90 volts, while the newone has an output of 266 DC. It appears that the rating is 90 volts DC. Does anyone know what goes bad on these things. I could probably refurbish it myself if I had a schematic diagram. Today I found someone that sells the bulbs for $150.00

Hi, My 62HM84 is having the same problem, front led still flashing after install a new lamp,thanks to coronadO's instructions and detail pictures,so I can repair myself. I just wonder who has the ballast board and cooling fan available for sell to me.if not then I'll buy them from Toshiba. thank you.

just search tigerdirect.com but no such 23122468 ballast.....

I figure to do it myself would end up costing around $75 or so. Do you think this would be much cheaper than letting a Toshiba service center do it? I've tried calling several but apparently they are not open on weekends. Also, does anyone agree that this is probably a bad ballast board, or could it be something else?

Also, it is a crazy idea to just leave the TV on 24 hours a day for a few days until I can get parts or a service technician to look at it? Could that hurt anything?

my 62HM84 is dead on Xmas. search web for 23122468 RPB4434ZA ballast, but out of luck, seems nobody carries it anymore?
however a dealer says I can use 23122497 RPB4456BA 62HM95 ballast to replace it. but I check the spec is bit different from what for 62HM84 uses.
are both ballasts fully compatible?

Does anyone know where to purchase the lamp for a good price? I am having the same restart issue and thought I might try the lamp before giving up on the TV. Sounds like if it isn't the lamp it is the ballast which isn't available anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

maybe open up the back cover first, look at the lamp area to see if it actually light up during the restart, if it did, then lamp is probably good.

I just paid $240 for original Toshiba Lamp and its the same as old lamp, keep restarting, light up and shut down...

I have been getting bulbs from here and they work great.

Hi guys; I've finally come to a roadblock with my TV. Hopefully someone can help or give me some ideas...

I have a 62CM9UA 62” Toshiba DLP rear projection television (Australian model) which has stopped working for a few months now.

The first lamp died at the end of last year after about 8000hrs and replaced with a genuine Toshiba lamp & housing which worked flawlessly for another 4-5months.

This is where we’re at now. Without testing anything, I thought it was just another lamp gone; ordered another and tried it out – no dice. After reading up a little about the status LEDs, it looked like it was a (as the manual states) an ‘ABNORMAL OPERATION OF BUS LINE’. Believing that this may be related to the televisions power supply, I found some info about the Toshiba’s ballast unit dying. I ordered the part, installed tonight and still no joy.

What I have noticed is that, on normal operation, there are 2 fans starting up with a higher than normal rpm then settling down to a nominal rpm after start-up; during this troubleshooting process, you cannot hear the two fans (or at least the start-up faster rpm) running. The fan cooling the lamp is working, but tomorrow I will check if the ballast cooling fan is operating properly.

Is there anything else you think I should look for?

Hello.... I recently replaced my lamp for the second time and then had an issue again... after researching I found your thread.. could you tell me the part number you ordered and let me know if this did seem to fix the problem? Thanks for your time
