First Time Caller long time listener

I need some help re connections.

What is the best hook up to obtain video / audio with the following?

1 Denon 3806 Receiver
2 Dish Network 625 PVR (standard def)
3 Panasonic 9UK 50" Plasma

Would it be worth while going to the receiver with s-video from the PVR (and optical for audio) and then, for want of a better phrase, 'up-converting' from the receiver to the Panny with HDMI?

Newbie question I know but any help gratefully received....

Thanks in advance

The audio can go via optical or coax, I don't think there is much of a difference.

If you have the means, you could try the video from the receiver to the TV both ways, via Svideo and HDMI upconverted and see which looks better to you.

I don't have time right now to figure out if this receiver has upconversion but here's the link to the manuals...

Many thanks

On reading the manual (not the easiest thing to read in the world)! it seems the receiver does not 'up-convert' analogue signals to HDMI in the true sense of the word but does 'convert' analogue signals from analogue to digital (see below). Not sure if all of this processing will affect the picture but will give it a bash just to settle curiosity. Have all analogue connections at the moment with component going from the 3806 to the panel.

"The AVR-3806's video up-conversion function lets you output
analog video input signals (component - 480i/576i, 480p/576p,
1080i or 720p; S-Video and composite video - 480i/576i) to the
HDMI monitor output terminal with the original resolution.
The on screen display signals are output from the HDMI
monitor output terminal with a resolution of 480i/576i. Because
of this, if the monitor equipped with HDMI terminal is
compatible with the 480i/576i resolution, all the signals the
AVR-3806 handles can be output to the monitor with a single
HDMI cable. The resolutions with which the monitor is
compatible can be checked using the STATUS button on the
main unit or the ON SCREEN button on the remote control unit."
