I just finished building my flexi rack. I put 4 casters underneath the bottom rack so that its easier to move. Thanks everyone for the great tips!

I think I've decided I'm definitely doing something like this. Yours looks very nice, great job!

total cost????

3/4" MDF (49"x97") - $19.76
5/8" Threaded rods - $25
Casters - $9.32
Washers & Nuts - $15

Thats approx $70 + tax...everything from Lowes and I did use 10% off coupon. I didn't had to buy primer and paint since I had some leftover from a previous DIY project. I still have MDF left which I might use later to add more racks. One of my friend loaned me his drill m/c to make 5/8" holes for the rod...otherwise renting is going to cost pretty much same as buying a new one.

Hi ya,

Ive just built one very similar myself. Can I ask exactly what paint you used?

I have used black satin paint and the finish looks prety awfull. - Need to get it sorted before i let it go in my setup!

Thanks,

Chris

I used gloss enamel which is carbon black. I don't remember the exact brand name. Don't forget to run roller to give smooth finish otherwise you get streaks.

I'm about to embark on my own flexy rack. I ordered the threaded rod and fittings from McMaster-Carr. I'm wonder if I should use MDF or finish quality plywood for the shelves. Any suggestions? I'm in a small Alaska town and there isn't a single store here that sells MDF (which actually blows my mind, but that's the way it is), though I'd imagine I could special order it. I think I should be able to find some furniture quality plywood though. I do plan on painting it so I guess MDF is preferred.

My plan is to make something like this: http://www.studiotech.com/products/c...-33/index.html
but for quite a bit less money!

Good job on the rack!!

I did one as well. I intially painted it, but then decided to laminate it with some Wilsonart. It was the green marble design. I can't find a pic, but I think I posted a pic in the archives somewhere.

What are you planning on putting on the rack? I would think that some good quality wood work just as well.

Any sites you know of that show some different ideas for racks?

Ive been thinking about putting something like this together myself. Yours looks great though!

Dumb question... Is each corner set on 1 threaded bolt? Or are they joined smaller threaded bolts? It looks like its just 1, but I wanted to make sure.

Have you thought about routing the edges so they are not just a straight edge?
