Flat speaker cables vs conventional ones?

I'm thinking of getting flat speaker cables for my surrounds due to their unobstrusiveness(or at least less-obstrusiveness), but I'm wondering if they are any worse than conventional speaker cables? I don't wish to lose sound quality on the cables.

how do you think you'd lose sound quality? flat is just as good as round...

As Dave puts on his Flame retardent suit.

Flat speaker wire will work just fine. Each speaker wire, type,AWG,Manuf. will give you a different sound. Depending on you equipment,(amps, interconnects, speakers, room layout) you may or maynot hear a difference. With surrounds they are less critical than the center and mains.

This is IMHO with my experience having installed many many systems at all levels.

Male speaker cable is flat, female speaker cable is round, and which sounds better depends on your sexual preference!

Seriously, flat vs oval vs round isn't the question. How does it sound in your system and room, that's the question!!!

So the general concencus is that there's no difference? Good. Are there any budget flat speaker cables around? The only flat cables I know of are the Nordost line of speaker cables.

For the mains/center I'm thinking of getting Audioquest Indigo+, Kimber 4TC, Ven Den Hul CS-122 or something of that price range(~$10/m). I think the Nordost Flatline Golds cost around the same price as well?

I use Tributaries SP3F 14awg flat speaker wire for my surrounds. They work very well.

My friend physicist Jack Bybee swears by the super expensive Nordost cables, and they are FLAT!!!!! However, my Bybee Meitner balanced interconnects are of a small round diameter!

I think Jack luvs the Nordost SPM! Oh well!!!
Jack used a tiny bit of this cabling with his now discontinued external speaker filters.

Wireworld just came out with some cheap flat (UL Listed I believe) speaker wire.
