Nice link.

Even when the sales levels drop below Blu we can always point to articles like this as proof of our success.

While I think that any positive word-of-mouth for HD DVD (and HD in general) is a good thing, I also have a real issue with the inaccurate terms used in this article.

"Record orders"? How is that known?

It had a record ranking relative to other items on the ranking list, but that does not correlate to record orders. Without order information directly from Amazon, it's impossible to make the assertions that are being made here.

They might not. PE has been available for preorder for a month (3/20), and at no time since 3/22 has the BR been selling better (on Amazon) than the HD version. The average separation has been about 10 places, which is somewhat significant this high up on the charts.

Maybe that'll turn over eventually, maybe it won't. My guess is it won't, both due to the past disparity and the fact that 3 days after the "event", it's still in 8th place. That means a LOT of people who have nothing to do with this place are still buying.

With the popularity of this series, and it is VERY popular, it is actually a title that will sell hardware. I suspect for many people, they are seeing the new $399 pricepoint for the Toshiba as the best way to get Planet Earth in HD.

The hgih def digest page that blurp referenced is a better and more accurate read.

I agree, there could be more then just the "entertainment" aspect to this particular titles apparent popularity, with some folks possibly buying it for reference/educational purposes.

Agreed.

The only reason I am keeping my order is because they are not Universal!

Release date: April 24th.

Records pre-orders. None had been sold yet.

All it take for some high pre-orders number is somebody that "mistakenly" enter the wrong number.

yeah ... right. Did you ever do that? I think most people know how to order from amazon without "mistakenly" change the number ordered.

I'll bet it is the demographics difference between standalone HD DVD player owners and PS3 owners.

Now that's what I call talking like a corporate guy. i am pretty sure a lot of your guys work for Ms.

What the hell? How'd he get in here? I thought once MS bought out AVS, it was finally just going to be an employee only forum!

PS: What's the link for the employee pricing on the secret 360 with an internal HD DVD Drive?

(For the sarcasm-handicapped, I don't work for MS)

Well I played my part and orderd the HD-DVD version. According to Amazon, it has a TrueHD track. Nobody seems to know for sure. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

You're right. By the way, ever notice how trolls have very low message numbers? They don' t have any games to play so they come here to muddy things.

Hey there, I have low numbers...Does that make me a troll???

Just kidding, but put me on the list of people that want PE in HD DVD. My toddler daughter and I love watching PBS HD, especially the National Parks of Utah episode.

I figure it will keep her attention and mine, seeing animals, plants, and locations that we may never visit, unless we actually turn off the TV.
