Which BR player do you own? - Page 2

The numbers on this poll prove why people arguing, "The PS3 doesn't count," are purposefully skewing the comparisons between Blu-ray player sales and HD DVD player sales.

HD DVD's players are superior to the game console equivalent. Blu-ray players are not. Thus, most people buy the PS3, even among the high end enthusiasts. I bet the ratio is even greater among those who we would consider mass market consumers.

Still, hopefully the sales numbers are shining a light on the BDA CE companies. Give us Dolby TrueHD and give us lower prices. Or give us PS3's.

In my case the Philips BDP9000. Wanted Blu Ray to add to my Tosh A1 to go format nuetral and wanted to do it on the cheap. Amazon at the time was selling it for $549, the cheapest new BR standalone I could find at that time. Not interested in the PS3. Appears now that the Samsung BDP1000 is now the cheapest (until they run otta stock).

Panasonic rules with new DTS-HD HR and DVD-audio. Try watching "Stir of Echoes" alone in the dark with DTS-HD 6.1. Yeah didn't think so ! Chickens !

I had read somewhere that the dvd-audio didn't work very good. Have the firmware updates fixed that? How many dvd-audio disks have you successfully played on it?

Also, is this a Japan manufactured machine?

Philips bdp9000, Samsung bdp1000, or any of the various pc blu-ray drives available.

Now I'm left to wonder of the 60% who have PS3, how many purchased it first as a gaming unit and second for its BR disc capabilities.

PS3...

I'd say equal gaming and movie watching

63% of an AV forum own the cheapest Blu-ray player available, despite the various shortcomings of it being primarily a gaming console as opposed to a standalone disc player with the features, functionality, and form factor of a more conventional disc player.

Obviously, price does not matter.

Generally, the results of the poll are quite predictable, however I thought there would be more Pio Elite voters here compared lets say to Sony BDPS1.

Proud PS3 owner here. No problems whatsoever.

PS3 owner.

The other players are a complete and utter waste of $$$ (unless you want 5.1 analog output and need 1080p24 via HDMI). Glad I didn't waste my money on being a Pioneer fanboy like I originally planned. $1600 for what? Or $999 for the Sony or even $649 for the Samsung.

The PS3 is (nearly) perfect. Add a lit remote, DTS-Master HD decoding and
1080p24sf and then it will be. Now where's my Rainbow 6?

Pity Sony will never let a game machine out-feature its stand alone players.
I personally think anyone waiting for DVD Up scaling, Blu-Ray Down-scaling and 1080p24sf with the PS3 is living in a dream world.

By the time they do it will be time to buy a 1080p24 projector for an average price of well below $3,000.00 and a new Blu-Ray player.

Give us all just a small break here, huh? "The other players are a complete and utter waste of money..."

I didn't waste a penny buying my BD10. It has proven to be a great investment in entertainment

I am surprised to see the Samsung 1200 in the poll but not the BD-P1000 (that I own). I picked "other".

Pioneer BDP-HD1. Really happy!

I don't understand how I could live for that long without the Media Gallery Player in the BDP-HD1. Watching HD videos with my family made with my HD camcorder stocked on my HDD in my main computer through the Media Gallery of the Pioneer Elite is something I can't live with anymore. And all my CD collection is also on my HDD and playing through the Pioneer Elite. It's like having a Media Server.

And 1080p24 to the JVC HD-1 (RS-1) is soooo good.

Still surprised that Pioneer hasn't moved up much. And as always, can't believe the percent of PS3, as I said before, I assumed AVS members would flock to dedicated players.

Currently using the Pioneer Elite BDP HD1. Extremely happy with its performance!

I have the Pioneer and the Panny!

AVS members are very heavy in standalone, in the wider BD market PS3 has a staggering lead over all the standalones combined (and hd dvd players as well).

Same here. I found mine for less than $400 just last week. I wanted a stand alone player to compliment my HD-A2. So far I have been very happy. I'm sure the Panasonic and Pioneer models are better, but I have been very happy so far. Picture quality is great and LPCM sounds wonderful. I'll probably upgrade when I can buy (for a reasonable price) a Blu-ray player that handles all the lossless audio formats and all the interactive features that are down the pike.

Just picked up the PS3 for Blu-ray and the odd game. Pretty impressed with the machine
I still use my XA2 for the regular SD-DVD's though .
Cheers

BDP-1200 and love it!

Panny DMP-BD10 and Sony BDP-S1 here... the Panny is definitely my favourite from an operational standpoint, but that Sony sure is pretty and the picture definitely doesn't suck!

Very happy with my Sony BDP-S1. I see a lot of happy BR owners in this thread.
