polaris, you dont have to be forceful with your point. besides ive seen numerous posts just like this one by other people within this thread. its just the way the cookie crumbles. you just have to be the better man and not respond to it. or even better save yourself a paragraph of complaining and answer the guys question.

on topic, were still waiting for the hd-dvd update and it could come any day now. lets all be patient.

You got to admit his post was hella funny looking and give him some slack that was his first post.

Can't wait for the HD-DVD update for the 360 add-on. My DVE freezes up to the point where I can't even get back to the dashboard. Was just wondering if anyone else was happy with their VGA output as is? I calibrated using an AVIA DVD and am happy with the calibrated image from VGA. Now the new update is supposedly going to fix the washed out look of VGA? But I'm definitely happy about the DTS fix!

I have been very happy with the VGA output on my 360/add-on to a Vizio P50HDTV10A. I initially calibrated using the THX Optimizer and have since re-calibrated, after the Spring update and "Expanded" feature, with the SD side of DVE.

IMHO, the add-on does an excellent job of upconverting SD material, better than other upconverting players that I've used, and HD material looks great also.

I remain, however, a little frustrated that I can't use the HD side of DVE to get more accurate color reproduction for further calibration.

If everyone did that how would he (or anyone) ever learn though? I suppose however, that I could have at least answered his question once I was finished chewing him out ...

Hey all, I work for Microsoft and for Amir. He and I are on the Home Theater Cruise so it's been tough for us to get to the forums. I read a ton, but I don't post often here since Amir does a fine job. I thought I would chime in on this disc since I was intimately involved in the creation and am an avid AVS reader and a enthusiast at heart.

As was noted in previous threads, we will have another update (besides the spring update) that is specific for HD DVD player for the 360 and will address the lock-ups and playback issues with DVE. This update was signed off internally (our process for releasing code) this week and should be arriving very soon.

The unfortunate issue here is that the disc was released well before our software updates were ready. This was a business decision by JKP. We have a good relationship with Joe Kane (he has been instrumental in VC-1 development) and we are committed to fixing the issues as soon as possible.

Once you get the second update (after you get the spring update) please post issues to the forum and we will work to help you here if you still have problems.

Thanks for the support.

Thanks for the update. Does the "sign off" process occur before the software goes into testing or is this a sign off that the software has been tested and is ready to release/deploy? What is the process?

thanks
JP

Now he knows he should check that before hitting submit ... how am I a lousy teacher if I am getting the point across and he will *learn* from it?

Sign off for a specific software release occurs after testing (for that specfic release). So that means it's ready to go out. One thing to note is it takes days sometimes for the software to get prepped for public consumption after signing so it's not always as quick as we like.

We also continue the development and testing on a daily basis as part of our development process so testing does continue even after the sign-off process is finished.

There are two ways to cook a hot dog. You can take the dog out of the frig and put it on the grill, or leave it in the frig and burn the house down.

Hope you all download it and provide feedback on what you think!

And sorry I did not give more of a notice. I was out on the cruise and only now got around to getting the specific time/date for it.

Everything seems to work fine. I ran through the patterns quickly before work. Is this update supposed to have dts too?

Updated this morning...DVE HD works fine!

Got the update, works great. Thanks!

I got the update this morning. DVE works fine now, but Relentless Enemies still can't be read I am upset now, because it's far to late to return the movie. Any thoughts Chris or Amir? Has MS tested this movie with the new update? I am wondering if I actually recieved a defective disc, or if it's a problem with the HD-DVD add on.

Can anyone confirm DTS support and audio fix on 360?

DTS seems to be working and the crackling audio on certain discs seems to be gone too.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up for the HD DVD update. The HD side of DVE is excellent.

I only wish I had a better HDTV and calibration equipment to take advantage of all of the available features

Sorry about that. Yes, the issue with Relentless is known and folks are investigating. But I have nothing to offer beyond that.

I've got the 360 add-on and DVE HD with the update. My problem is I can't get back to the main menu at the start of the disc. All I get when I pop the disc in is the audio/video tests menu.I can play all of the tests but there's no tutorial on how to make adjustments.Any ideas?

Hi, my first post.

I tested successfully DVD HD on a XE1 (EU) with firmware 1.5
But displaying of test screens is very slow (wait 5 to 10 sec after selecting a screen).
Pressing a arrow key before the display of screen display a error (can't read + error number).
I just upgraded my XA2 to version 1.6 and DVE-HD will now play successfully!
It used to freeze the XA2 while in the loading process with version 1.5.
Well it worked twice with 1.6 and now it freezes up again during loading?????
