The article on the front page of AVS Forum says that the "HD" in "HD Radio" really doesn't stand for anything. (article at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=837001) It is my understanding that it does stand for, "Hybrid Digital". Wikipedia also agrees at the following link:

It doesn't stand for Hybrid Digital, High Definition, Heavy Duty, or anything else. Ibiquity was VERY clear when they first brought out the trademark that it doesn't have any meaning. People may have added meaning later (such as the misnomer Hybrid Digital, which makes no sense since the HD system includes a full-digital mode), but when it was first made public, it meant nothing. You will never see any meaning tied to it on any written information from Ibiquity.

Look on Ibiquity's web site. See it anywhere?

Well, then they've changed. I'll have to ask them why.

From my inderstanding Wiki is by users anyway! Wiki doesn't make it right.

According to MY just about every day with them and the long training I went through as to how to properly market and sell HD Radio they clearly brainwashed me that HD stands for nothing!! It stands for HD.

Somebody corrected the article, and thus it now states:

(I was actually just about to edit out the error... man Wikipedia moves pretty fast)
