I don't understand their claim "Films broadcast in High Definition for the first time on television." If instead they said "First time on HDNet or HDNet Movies ...", that would be credible. Does HDNet have a data source of all movies shown in HD on HBO, Showtime, InHD, etc.? Apparently not, since they misspoke re: Curly Sue, as well as With Honors, which I saw in HD around two years ago (Cinemax HD if I recall correctly).
Charade, and Thrill of it All! Yay! Thanks!
'Conan' and 'Escape From New York'. Yeah! I'm generally happy with HDNM if they come up with two classic movies a month I'd like to see. So, I'm happy! Good job, guys.

I'd get excited about seeing 'Sex and Lucia' as well, but I understand it's the censored version. Bad job, guys.
Was nice to see HDNet appear in Calgary this month!. How about a movie lineup for April and May?
The Searchers, Charade, Escape From New York, and Conan. What a great month!

I hope they are not paying a premium for these "first runs."

I think it was shown recently on TNT, as well. I'm not sure if it was in HD, though, since the TV I saw it on was SD.

We receive our information about HD premieres directly from the studios. If you saw a film we list as an HD premiere on a rival HD channel, then it must have been an upconvert.

Conan...awesome, BTW great lineup!!!
I've noticed the channel has been picking up a lot of films from Paramount Pictures lately. Any chance in getting some of the Star Trek films in HD?

ESCAPE FROM N.Y has been on before and is still currently available ON-DEMAND in HD. Nevertheless, I still wish Comcast would add HDNet Movies. Would love to see a number of the listed films.

Yep, watched it a couple of weeks ago, not a upconvert at all, damn crisp looking for such a older movie.

Sorry, you, and the studios are wrong. Sling Blade is another example of a "premier" that was on HBO first. The HBO tranfer compared to thetranfer shown on HDNet, was better. There has been atleast a half a dozen of instances when you think you are getting a first run, when indeed, you are not.

Are you guys going to show the original uncut version? I watched it when you broadcast it a few months ago and almost all of the male and female below the waist nudity was cut. Tell Cuban a little below the waist nudity isn't going to hurt anyone.

All right lets take a deep breath here - is it possible that they are right? HDNM tends to show almost all movies in OAR (thank you! by the way), where a lot of the "rivals" crop them. Could this be the distinction? I would accept a claim of "HD Premiere" if it was in fact the first time it was shown in HD OAR!

Small suggestion here. Maybe you guys need clearer web design on the HDNet site because when someone like me who doesn't know beforehand that there are 2 different channels, HDNet and HDNetMovies goes to the HDNet site and clicks on movies they are let to believe that these movies are on HDNet not HDNetMovies.

Okay, something weird happened with LUCY. I had it set to DVR for 10 AM yesterday, as it was shown in the guide on DirecTV. I sit down to datch it tonight, and I'm watching the middle of FASTEST INDIAN. What happened? Now I check the schedule online and it'll only be repeated June 4 at 8:30 AM...

Hi Dreamstate,

i see by your signature you are in Canada. Canada gets its own HDNet Feed, and includes some movies . This is due to rights issues, HDNet/Movies don't have the rights to some of our programming outside the USA.

Canada does NOT get the same feed as the USA for HDNet and HDNet Movies

here's the link to the schedule for the programming for Canada -

the goal for HDNet Movies has always been UNEDITED, OAR, COMMERCIAL FREE- 'the way the director wanted it to be seen'.
I recorded Marathon Man recently on DirecTV Tivo. started it and saw the last few minutes of Judgement at Nuremburg. fast forwarded to the start of Marathon Man, but at the end of the movie it was cut off at two hours.
This has happened before, it's no big deal when the movie is replayed soon, but Marathon Man won't be back until mid June.
When Mark Cuban recovers from the Golden State Warrior blues that knocked him down, get him on this ASAP
post #26 of 32
Sweet. Finally, Raise the Red Lantern. One of my all time favourites.
Until recently, it was not even available on SD-DVD.

"The Searchers" had an excellent transfer. Great job!

Johnny, about "Sex and Lucia", I think you're referring to the Unrated version. The one that HDNet airs may have been the R-rated version.

I do know there's some confusion about the run-time on this one. HDNet Movies always lists it as a 2h, 11m runtime; but it always airs at 2:06. That happens to be the length of the R-rated edition, while the Unrated is 2:08. I don't know where they got the 2:11 runtime, but I've recorded it twice now, thinking it must have been a different release. It's always been 2:06.

Watched parts of this 6/25 and found the PQ, overall, remarkable, too. Especially the depth of the many desert landscapes. From the imdb.com site this is a VistaVision film and apparently involved a 4k scanning process for the transfer, as this thread mentions (search for "Searchers"). While the outdoor vistas, clothing details, etc. have excellent resolution, there's a curious grayness in many flesh tones, perhaps related to some of the negative fading mentioned in the linked writeup. -- John
