Screen Height

What is the proper screen height for an 84" screen? My ceiling height is only 7'1''. The screen size is 48" X 77".

Thanks in advance

I cannot answer with complete certainty but I have read that 1/3 of the screen should be under your viewing height. So if when you sit your eye level is 36" from the ground, the following would be true.

48" x .333 = 16" (48 is the height of your screen)
36 - 16 = 20"

So to have 1/3 of your screen be beneath your viewing height the bottom of the screen should be 20" from the floor. If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.

Other things to consider...

are you going to have more than one row of seats? Is the second row of seats going to be on a riser?

If so, you want the screen as high as possible. The lower the screen, the higher your riser will need to be. And with a 7'1 ceiling, you don't have much room for the riser.

Thanks for the help. I was thinking about a riser for a second row. Mainly for the kids so height wouldn't be that much of an issue.

So with a second row on riser, I should have the screen as high as I can get it?

Thanks

Yes. Because if the folks (kids) on the second row want to see the bottom of the screen, you need to account for that.
