Filmfest does show a lot of movies one can never find on other HD channels. So even if it is not up to HDTVFanatics standards it is very much superior to SD. And, I might add, better quality in recording to a DVD recorder.

Woe, this is one of my favourite Mitchum movies - will there be another airing date ?

And how did it look ?

This film is a must-see for "noir" buffs, and even on a ~1962 GE B/W TV it was unforgettable.

Laughton's direction [his first and only] is quite good.

The shot of those poor kids floating down the river in the rowboat with stars in the sky is haunting.

I'll be viewing/recording it on Saturday.

HD Lite, or not, I'm sorry that I won't get to see Night of the Hunter in HD. I am on cable and, so far as I can tell, no HD channel available to me has ever shown it. I have seen it OAR on TCM several times, but, alas, that was only 480i. I think the movie is a masterpiece. I wish Charles Laughton had done more directing. Robert Mitchum's performance as the homicidal preacher was the best of his career, in my estimation.

I guess I was about 20 when I first saw it, circa 1972. Come to think of it, that was when I started putting together my first 16mm home theater. Never did get a decent print of Night of the Hunter though, damn, LOL...

TOT . . . .
I have a forum technical question for you guys . . . when you have to put someone on your ignore list, why does the fourum system have to notify you by email when that particular imbecile makes another rude/stupid posting? Wouldn't he be automatically ignored then, too?

Well, despite some expected grain [cutting back a few ticks on the Marantz VP11 projector sharpness fixed that], this 1955 film looks very very good.

What a classic, it's so sad that it originally flopped commercially.

Thanks Dish!
