I got an HV20 a few weeks ago (though my question is not HV20-specific). Great camera. It's a lot of fun to use.

The current trouble I'm having is how to get high-quality videos out of Final Cut Pro (5.1.4) to archive/play later. I'm trying to find a good balance between filesize and PQ and not having much luck. Through a combination of FCP, Compressor, ffmpegX, I was able to get it into a 1080i XviD with 2.0 AC3 at about 13 Mb/sec, but the filesize ends up being about 90 MB/minute of video. When I lower the bitrate to around 8 Mb/sec, I start to see significant noise/artifacting. Not ideal. :|

Has anyone found a solution that works well? I'm (obviously) using a Mac and fine with pretty much any video codec (h.264, x264, XviD, MPEG4, etc) as the final result. I'd be watching the videos on an HDTV connected directly to my Mac, so an SD DVD isn't a great option for archiving (though perfect for the relatives... ).

Any suggestions are welcome and I'll try anything at this point.
