New Build. PCI-E Capture cards

I'm about to do a new MCE machine around a Silverstone LC19 case. To facilitate it's 1U stature I want to use one of the new Hdmi mother boards. My problem really is with capture cards though, since this case only has a single expansion slot.

Currently I have a pair of Hauppage PVR-150MCE's, I had planned on keeping one and using in the new system, but of the three boards I like: Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD, Abit IL-90mv and MSI K9AGM2-FIH; the Abit F-i90HD is the one I like the best. The problem is the Silverstone case requires that you use the #1, #2 or #3 PCI slots for your expansion cards. My PVR150 is standard PCI, and on the Fatal1ty board the single PCI slot is in position #4, thus won't work. My second choice is the MSI, due to cost restrictions, but am still undecided.

The issue though with capture cards, is whether I should go with what I have or look at a PCI-Express card. In my search, I have found a couple, but am curious what suggestions others have regarding a PCI-E capture card (single is all I need). I want to capture over SVHS and L/R audio from a Directv receiver. Also, I'm curious as to anyone's thoughts on or my motherboard choices.

I have the PCI-e 550 which works well - probably the same if not a tad better than 150/500.

You could always go USB too

Nice, missed powercolor in my search of new cards. Will do somr reading on it. Have you had any issues with drivers, or compatibility. What OS are you running. I'm Windows MCE2005 still. Any word on Vista compatibility?

I'm running XP Pro - no driver issues. No clue on Vista support - I actually don't use it anymore - just sitting in the box

There is supposed to be a PCI-e version of the Hauppauge HVR1600, an HVR1800. I didn't find any mention of it on the Hauppauge webstore the last time I looked . I did find a mention on the Vista drivers page, however.

Hauppauge just released the HVR-1800. It is a PCI Express x1 card and it does have QAM support. For the next month or so it is available exclusively at pcalchemy.com
