Best outdoor speaker option?

I currently have a Bose Lifestyle 35 system (the previous owner left it). The system is right inside of a wall that is on the other side of my new brick paver patio. I am not an audiophile and the majority of music that will be played through the speakers will be kids music during the day (although we will be using this area for entertaining throughout the spring, summer and fall.

The first picture shows my indoor setup. The BOSE system is in the bottom right cabinet to the right of my TV.

The 2nd picture shows the outside of my house with the completed patio. The area to the left of that little white vent on the bottom right corner of my house is where the bose system is on the other side of that wall......

Have been quote around $950 to install two bose 251's outside with all wiring, new remote and complete hookup to the Lifestyle 35 system....Not wanting to spend that much...What other options do I have?

Did they tell you where they would put the speakers? Depending on where you want them, getting an inexpensive stereo receiver a pair of outdoor speakers (Polk Atriums, for example) would be less than half that and you could probably do the installation yourself.

First of all, thanks for replying...this site is full of info but the notification system blows.

They are going to mount the speakers up on the side of the house and run all wire, connect the amp that they include and also provide the new Bose remote for the outdoor system......

Would you be interested in doing it yourself?

If so, you can get what you need a lot cheaper and save on the labor. If not, I would think for the speakers and amp and remote and labor that might not be a bad deal if you like what they are offering.

You might want to ask *how* they are going to run the wires and detail exactly where they would put the speakers. That would give you an idea on if you might tackle it alone.

Do you have any paint that matches the house or trim? Running wires along the outside is easily made to look "hidden" by painting over them to match the siding/trim if you follow trim edges and siding lines.

They would probably just drill a hole through the wall and silicone the annular space from the inside and out - you can do that (check for studs first). Plan ahead for entry/exit points and routing wires.

If you NEED a remote outside, that may be difficult to do too easily and the Bose may be a better deal if they have a remote that isn't IR.
