just got HV20, did I waste $150 for the 4-year BestBuy PSP with accidental damage?

Just got my new HV20 with 10-percent discount at BestBuy.


4 years of regular PSP was $129
4 years of PSP with accidental damage protection(ADH) was $169.

The salesperson didn't even offer to sell me the PSP, I had to tell
him that I wanted to buy the PSP.

I opted for the PSP/ADH for $169. They also gave me 10-percent
off that, making it $150. I figured that' essentially paying they
3 dollars every month, for 48 month, as protection money.

In the unlikely event that I drop my HV20 and it breaks into 2 pieces,
I was told that they would just give me a new HV20, or similar model
of equal value.

I'd like to know what you guys think.... I have 29 more days left to
cancel the PSP w/ADH and get my $150 back.

Actually you can cancel the PSP at any time during it's duration, Best Buy will give you a pro-rated refund depending on how long you wait before cancelling. After a year you might only get $100 back, instead of the full amount. The economics behind a PSP are very much tilted towards Best Buy... in other words hardly worth it. However if you plan to use the camcorder every day then maybe it's worth it for you. Laptops are one of the only things I've bought a PSP for... I can say that all the thousands I've spent on those plans over the years has been money wasted and I use my equipment professionally. I'd want to know exactly how comprehensive the accidental damage coverage is... does it cover submersion in water? For most people the economics behind these plans just doesn't make sense.

The only thing I ever bought where the plan came in handy was for a Hoover carpet cleaner.

Refrigerators with ice makers and Camcorders are the only two personal items that I'll buy the ESP's on.

That price should include a yearly cleaning, that will cut your overall costs down a lot.

OH YES< I forgot about the cleanings. Definitely makes the PSP much more worthwile for a camcorder, just remember to take advantage of it.

Does that mean I can simply drop off the HV20 at BestBuy every year for cleaning? Do they send it out for this service?
