PS3 - Color Spots HDMI

My PS3 plays BD's fine, no problems whatsoever on my Sony 60" rear-projection LCD (KDS60A2000) via HDMI at 1080p but with the two games I've tested so far (MLB 2K7,Resistance:Fall of Man and I realize they output at 720p) I get these bluish/purple spots on the TV. They appear on darker backgrounds more predominantly but also appear on light backgrounds (players faces have blue lesions etc). It seems worst when there is motion in the game. I haven' t tried component cables because I don't feel like forking over the $$. Is this a calibration issue? I've tried. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It sounds like it could be the dreaded HDMI "sparklies". Does this only show up when the PS3 is set to 1080p? Try different resolutions and see if you see the same artifacts. I hadn't heard of this showing up on a Sony TV...but who knows...

It exhibits this behavior when the PS3 is set to 720p also. If it were an HDMI specific issue, wouldn't you think I'd see this when viewing Blu-Ray discs? (Which I never have).

Could be the graphics chip or memory getting too hot, do you have the console in a nice open area where it can get lots of airflow?

I would also try playing with the TV setting. However, if you play around for a while and nothing works, I would take this up w/ customer support and consider taking advantage of the warranty. This sounds like a serious issue.
