Hi everyone
first time post, long time lurker.

I'm looking to format neutral but i need a little help on which HD DVD Player to get. I've been looking at getting the Xbox 360 player, But would also like to know what a good standalone player would be with good DVD upconversion so I could get rid of my samsung upconversion dvd player.

Thanks for looking

I love my Toshiba A2...does a wonderful job with SD upconversion and HD. My Oppo has been demoted to the bedroom since getting the A2. Good Luck and Welcome to HD DVD.

Thanks for the replies all

I was on the Toshiba site looking at the specs of the HD-A2 and the HD-XA2 and I noticed the HD-A2 only outputs at 1080i and not 1080p compared to the XA2, I was wondering if i would see much difference between 1080i/p. I do have a 1080p Samsung DLP and I would like to get the 1080p player but the difference between the two is just too much.

Also has anyone ever shopped from **************** ? if so are they a good seller.

thank you

Value Electronics is fantastic from what I've read everywhere. Excellent service, great price, free HDMI cable, double-boxed. You can't go wrong.

Yes Value Electronics is a great dealer. Imo there is not much difference when viewing 1080i vs 1080p on a 1080p display. Also I believe the 2005 Samsung DLP's will not accept 1080p via the HDMI input however the 2006 models (series HLS I think) will.

Get the XA2. Period. Highly regarded as one of the best (if not THE best) HD DVD players and holds it own (if not outperforms) against upconverting DVD players costing much more. If you want good (great) upconversion of standard DVDs as well as HD DVD capability the XA2 is the way to go.

If you want a 1080p player you could get the A20. I have the XBox 360 HD DVD player and it can only up convert over VGA, or if you happen to have the new Elite system with HDMI.

The Toshiba XA2 (XE1 here in europe) is the best upscaler and the best HD DVD player around.
