As you know, the 42PX600U was, at the time, the "Cadillac" of the Panny line. My local BB tried to give me a "Kia" in exchange once BB HQ finally authorized the replacement. I wouldn't accept it. It got ugly. I loaded my TV back into my van and headed north to a Magnolia HT store in southeast Michigan (I live in Toledo - the armpit of the nation) where I had absolutely no problem exchanging the 42PX for a 42PZ700U. Couldn't be happier with the set - of course, I already owned the 58PZ700U and knew the 42 would also be great. One thing we note - the conventional wisdom is that under 50", you don't really see the benefit of 1080P(42PZ700U) vs. 720P(42PX600U). To that, we politely say "bovine scathology". There is a tremendous difference! You won't be sorry making the move to the 42PZ700U. Oh and as an added bonus - you won't have the silver bezel of the 42PX distracting you from the picture. Go for the swap - you'll be glad you did.
Almost forgot to mention, if it is BB you are dealing with, you will have to purchase a new service plan for the 42PZ700U. That's a little zinger no one ever mentioned (though it is mentioned - sort of - in the service plan agreement) until the actual time of the swap.
Well, luckily I didn't have to deal with the headaches you had. I am getting my replacement 42pz700u in a week or so.
The Plasma Concierge was amazing. I logged my service issue into the website. I got a call two days later telling me that they would send a field rep out. The field rep came out a week later and confirmed the purple snake issue, which only took him 5 minutes to see. A day later the Field Rep called me back and said they would offer the PZ700u as a direct replacement. He was apologizing because the 700u doesn't have a cable card! Oh darn.
Thanks to all those who quickly helped me make the decision easy by saying that the PZ700u is a good replacement.
