There's probably a dozen posts explaining how to get into the hidden Service Menu to check the hours used if you search this thread for a few minutes. But be aware that a number of PZ and PX owners here have accidentally pushed a wrong button somewhere while they were checking their hours in the service menu and somehow changed some obscure setting which ruined their set's picture quality. Kinda defeats the purpose of breaking it in

There is no requirement that you break the TV in for exactly 100 hours (or even for one hour for that matter) so you might want to just keep track of the hours in your head and come up with a good estimate of the hours and stay out of the service menu.

Hi, I have 2 strange pixels on my pz700

The first, as far as I know has been there since the beginning. Its pink all the time. But I never notice it unless I have a solid color background and I look for it, so I didn't really worry about it.

The second however is much more annoying. It appeared around a month ago. Its just left of the middle. It appears as a bright white glowing dot, and is easily noticeable. It doesn't appear when it is supposed to be dark, thank goodness, but on lighter or brighter backgrounds. It doesn't seem to appear until the set warms up for around 15 minutes to half an hour, and it doesn't appear all the time. Most of the time though. It kind of flashes off and on too. It is particularly noticeable on things like skin, light colored wallpaper, a light green lawn, or sky. Very annoying and detracts from the enjoyment.

Anyone else got a pixel like this?

Mine are pretty much constant.

Don't worry about the stand. Unlike some others I actually used it a few times while I was wall mounting my tvs and it was perfectly fine. It would do the job if you wanted to use it permanently.

I used an excel spreadsheet and kept track of mine for the first week or so. That is all it took to get to 100. After that I didn't think twice about it. Two months later, no probs.

The break in DVD is exactly 45 minutes long. 90 chapters, each 30 seconds.

Call Panasonic if it is a bother, you should be able to relax and enjoy it. The money you paid for it was satisfying, so the tv should be as well.

Ditto. I'm having my TV mounted on 3/24 and have had it on the duck foot stand since I got the TV about 3 weeks ago. The stand works perfectly fine and is stable. It really is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

I turned on my TV and kept it on for 100 hrs, almost constantly. When I wasn't watching TV I just muted the sound but kept it running to get those first 100 hrs out of the way. Great way to do it--I just made sure I kept the TV on full screen and on active broadcasting channels with no banners across the bottom. In practice I actually watch TV only about 2 - 3 hrs a day, sometimes less.

Actually, Panasonic recommends that if you are going to do some sort of break in routine, that you do it as you would with normal TV viewing - including turning the set on and off.

I saw it in the theater when it was released 40 years ago. I caught it the other night on UHD on my 700/50" and I was impressed as well.

Pioneers are known for their drippy inky blacks...Panasonics are known for their value/performance and overall impressive PQ...this is no secret.

I have to vent about those idiots at Universal HD sticking their obnoxious logo on the screen 100% of the time. Hello?? It certainly detracts from the the enjoyment of viewing an awesome film like "2001" in HD. I appreciate that they're broadcasting HD films, but if they had any consideration for their viewers, they'd have the logo appear only periodically.

Business IS business...without the logo, someone is DVR'ing it (copying/burning it), packaging it, and selling it...unfortunately, it's the only way for Universal (and most every other HD network) to protect their investment.

And that's why they don't "have the logo appear only periodically"?

Actually I'm surprised they don't make it half the screen size and plop it down dead center in order to make it harder to edit out (corners or bottoms could be cropped).

After talking to the tech who was coming out for my stuck pixel problem on my 50pe700u, he told me the only way to repair it would be to take it in replace the panel which would be essentially be about 75% of the tv. No guarantees on if the replacement panel would have stuck/bad pixels either. I'm returning it after the Masters for a 85/800. I'll give them one shot and hopefully I can get a good one.

Good Luck All, thanks for all tips and also the settings thread!!

There's a whole thread about settings for the pz700/pz750 sets. You should be able to find something in there that you like.

Vivid off, everything else default.

Not completely sure I understand your question, but I have a PC connected to my 58/750U, using a DVI-to-HDMI cable from monoprice (and a stereo RCA cable to supply the sound) and it works just great in 1920x1080 resolution with the standard video card already installed in the PC, input to HDMI2 on the Panny TV.

You might have to switch to HD Size 2 to display the full image with no overscan.
Good to hear, do you use an ati Card to? Basically was researching this thread and it seemed some people had trouble with 1:1 mapping with ati cards at 1920X1080.

Also you say you connect it into hdmi 2, is it because its like my samsung where the hdmi input from a pc only works on one of the inputs. IN the case with my samsung HDMI to DVI from my ati into the display needs to be on hdmi input 1, hdmi input 2 wont accept pc signals.
No, there is a setting in the menus that allows you to set the panel for zero overscan which will give you teh 1:1 pixel mapping. It is in Picture--> Other settings and it says HD Size and has Size 1 and Size 2 as rhe choices. Size 1 has overscan and Size 2 does not.

Try google/pricescan with the specific model number you are looking to purchase.

members-
I am a happy th50 8uk pro model owner and now I'm going for sceen #2 for the living room. It's a fairly large room with cathedral ceilings and a large wall with fireplace (the best wall for this i think in the room) I want a 58 the w.i.f.e. just wants to get another 50 I think the room is too big for the 50. She also wants one of those frames that looks like a mirror, then turns into a TV around it to mount over the fireplace. I'm now looking into the pz700/750u series as the new sets are coming out and these are getting better in price

Only difference is front inputs and a couple more modes from 700 to 750?

going over the fireplace a real big deal? (gas insert not wood) reccomendations or thoughts on harming the set?

where do you find these decorative frames? they have mirror ones also?

I'm definitely going with a Panny again as I really love my 50 in the rec room for sure. a 65 would be sweet, but out of my range realisticly. thanks for any opinions. I'll try to get a photo of the room up soon.

looks like the Panasonic TH-42PX80U is my best bet. still around $1K but that's a good price it seems. And a forum sponser (Plasma Concepts) at that. Think I can talk them down at all?
