Well unless it has an audio output jack or a headphone jack, you're stuck with putting a microphone in front of it.
I recorded my late mother's messages on my ZEN Vision M MP3 Player (it has a voice recorder function) by holding it close to the answering machine's speaker one quiet morning, then downloaded them to my PC. The ZEN saves voice recordings as WMV files.
